Chapter 1: The Return to the Empire

They thought they had trapped a helpless, unassuming girl. They believed the apartment I bought with my family trust funds—funneled through Elias's accounts to maintain the illusion of his provider status—would effortlessly fall into their hands once they drove me to a fabricated madness. They laughed about plain rice, cheap secretary makeup, and a future where Brenda would move in to raise their child while I was cast out into the cold.

They had no idea who my father was.

As my old sedan sped eastward toward the sprawling estate I had left behind two years ago, my phone vibrated in the cup holder. The audio file was safely backed up in three separate encrypted cloud vaults. The recording was crystal clear: Cynthia’s cold malice, Brenda’s expectant scheming, and Elias’s hollow, callous betrayal.

When I pulled through the wrought-iron gates of the Wilson family compound, the massive security lights flickered on. The guards at the gatehouse stared in disbelief as my dented, mud-spattered compact car rolled up to the main entrance. But within seconds, the recognition hit them, and the heavy oak doors of the grand foyer swung open.

My father, Jonathan Wilson, stood at the top of the grand staircase. He was wearing a dark silk bathrobe over his pajamas, his silver hair slightly disheveled, but his eyes were as sharp and unyielding as tempered steel. Beside him stood Rebecca, my stepmother, who had helped raise me after my mother passed away.

"Ella?" my father’s voice echoed through the cavernous hall, laced with shock and immediate, protective fury. "What in God's name is the meaning of this? You're supposed to be on your honeymoon."

I stepped into the light, my wedding dress stained with dust from the hotel carpet, my hair half-pulled from its pins. I didn't cry. The tears had burned away hours ago, replaced by a cold, calculating fire that matched my father's own.

"The honeymoon is over, Dad," I said, my voice steady as I walked up the stairs and handed him my phone. "Press play. And put it on speaker."

For the next ten minutes, the grand foyer of the Wilson estate fell into a terrifying, suffocating silence. Every word of Cynthia’s plot, Brenda’s laughter, and Elias’s cold calculation rang through the empty hall. When the recording finally clicked off, the silence returned, heavier and darker than before.

Rebecca brought her hand to her mouth, her eyes wide with horror.

My father didn't speak. He slowly lowered the phone, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched in his cheek. He looked down at me, seeing past the ruined dress and the smudged makeup, recognizing the heir to the Wilson name who had just been awakened.

"They want a war," my father whispered, his voice dangerously low. "They wanted your apartment, your money, and your dignity. They are about to find out what happens when you kick a sleeping dragon."

"I don't just want them out, Dad," I replied, meeting his gaze without flinching. "I want to dismantle everything they've built, piece by piece, until they have nothing left."

"Done," my father said, turning to Rebecca. "Call Marcus. Tell our lead legal counsel to be in my study in thirty minutes. And wake up the forensic accounting team. We have a family of thieves to evict."
