Chapter 6 - The Promise KeptSix months later, the autumn leaves across Chicago turned into a brilliant canopy of gold and crimson, casting warm shadows over the manicured lawns of the Lincoln Park estate.

The media storm surrounding Victor Vance’s spectacular federal indictment had dominated the financial news for weeks, resulting in the complete collapse of Vanguard Holdings and cementing Northstar Systems as an untouchable global powerhouse. But inside the walls of Nathan Cole’s estate, financial spreadsheets and stock tickers had finally taken a backseat to something far more valuable.
In the sunlit glass conservatory overlooking the lake, a small white-and-gold wedding arch stood adorned with fresh white roses and autumn hydrangeas.
Only a dozen people were in attendance: Marcus, Dr. Vance, a few trusted executives, and, most importantly, two very excited flower girls.
Sophie wore a little pink dress with a satin sash, clutching a basket of rose petals like she was holding state secrets. Beside her stood Emma, looking healthy, vibrant, and completely recovered, wearing an elegant periwinkle dress and smiling from ear to ear.
The heavy glass doors swung open.
Clara walked down the makeshift aisle. She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that caught the morning sunlight, her dark hair swept back in soft waves, a quiet, breathtaking grace radiating from her.
At the end of the aisle stood Nathan.
He wore a classic black tuxedo, but the cold, impenetrable armor of the ruthless billionaire was entirely gone. His dark eyes were fixed solely on Clara, filled with a depth of devotion and wonder that words could never capture.
As Clara reached his side, Nathan took her hands in his. They were warm, steady, and real.
"Do you take this man..." the officiant began.
"I do," Clara said without a single second of hesitation, her eyes locked on Nathan's.
"And do you, Nathan..."
"I do," Nathan replied, his voice ringing clear and strong through the conservatory.
When the rings were exchanged and the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, Nathan didn't rush the kiss. He pulled Clara gently against his chest, wrapping his arms around her as if anchoring her against the entire world, and kissed her with all the passion, regret, and enduring love of a lifetime reclaimed.
Applause erupted from the small group. Sophie cheered so loudly she dropped half her rose petals on the floor, while Emma laughed, wiping a happy tear from her eye.
Later that afternoon, during the quiet reception on the terrace overlooking the sparkling water, Nathan stood by the stone balustrade, holding a glass of sparkling cider.
Sophie tugged on the hem of his tuxedo jacket.
"Mr. Nathan?" she asked brightly.
Nathan knelt down, smiling warmly at the seven-year-old who had started it all. "What is it, Sophie?"
"Can I still call you Mr. Nathan, or do I have to call you Dad now?"
Nathan looked up and saw Clara walking toward them across the terrace, her ivory dress swaying in the breeze, with Emma walking beside her, holding the hand of a very fat, very pampered orange tabby cat named Button that they had formally adopted from the neighborhood shelter just for fun.

Nathan reached out, pulling Sophie into a gentle hug, resting his chin on her curly hair.
"You can call me whatever you want, Sophie," Nathan whispered, looking up at his wife and his daughters as the autumn sun bathed them all in golden light. "Just don't ever stop calling."
