Chapter 5 - The Siege of Beacon HillPeace in the underworld, however, is never permanent. It is merely a pause before the final reckoning.

That night, while the estate slept under a blanket of fresh snow, Liam Sullivan made his desperate, final gamble. Having lost his docks and his financial backing, Sullivan gathered every remaining enforcer he had on the payroll for a suicidal assault on the Beacon Hill mansion.

At 2:14 AM, the security alarms shrieked through the corridors—a piercing, metallic wail that shattered the silence of the night.

In the west wing, Grace bolted upright in her cot, clutching a blanket to her chest as the sound of muffled gunfire echoed from the front courtyard.

Heavy boots thundered down the hallway.

The door to her room burst open. It wasn't Frank or Dante. It was Michael.

He was dressed in dark tactical gear, a heavy automatic rifle gripped in his right hand, a holster strapped across his chest. His face was a mask of cold, lethal fury.

"Get up," Michael ordered, grabbing her arm and pulling her toward the reinforced safe room behind the wardrobe.

"What's happening?!" Grace cried, her voice shaking with terror.

"Sullivan," Michael said grimly, pushing her inside the steel-reinforced alcove. "He thinks he can burn down my house to settle a score."

"I'm not hiding while you go out there!" Grace snapped, grabbing the lapel of his tactical vest. "You saved my mother. You gave us a home. I am not letting you walk into a firing squad alone!"

Michael looked down at her hand clutching his vest. For a fraction of a second, the cold, untouchable syndicate boss vanished, replaced by a man terrified of losing the only light that had entered his world in eleven years.

"Grace—"

"Give me a radio," she demanded, her gray eyes burning with fierce, unyielding courage. "I know every corridor of this house better than your guards. I can coordinate the security feeds from the panic console while you hold the courtyard."

Michael stared at her for three endless seconds. Then, with a sharp nod, he handed her a small encrypted comms earpiece and shoved her inside the console room, slamming the steel door shut behind her.

Outside, the battle for Beacon Hill erupted in a symphony of shattering glass, echoing gunfire, and shouted orders.

Grace sat at the glowing terminal, her fingers flying across the digital keyboard. She switched on the estate’s internal security grid, tracking the heat signatures of Sullivan's men as they breached the east conservatory.

"Michael! Three men coming up the grand staircase!" she spoke rapidly into the comms mic. "Dante, cut the hallway lights on the second floor—trap them in the dark!"

"Copy that, kid," Dante’s voice crackled back over the static.

From her monitor, Grace watched in breathless awe as Michael and his men dismantled the attack with ruthless, surgical precision. Within twenty minutes, the gunfire ceased. The courtyard fell silent, save for the crackling of burning snow and the groans of captured intruders being zip-tied by Frank's enforcers.

The heavy steel door of the safe room hissed open.

Michael stood in the doorway. His tactical vest was scorched, a shallow graze marked his left shoulder, but he was standing tall, completely unharmed.

Grace flew out of the alcove and threw her arms around his neck, burying her face in his chest. Michael froze for a heartbeat before his strong arms wrapped around her, holding her as if she were the only real thing in a world of ghosts.

"It's over," Michael murmured against her hair. "Sullivan is gone. The house is secure."
