Chapter 3 - The Financial Demolition

By 8:30 AM the next morning, the financial foundation of Ethan Parker’s life evaporated into thin air.

Sitting in my high-rise corner office, watching the morning sun illuminate the Charlotte skyline, my phone began to buzz incessantly.

First came a text from Ethan: Ava, what the hell is going on? My corporate cards are all declined! The bank says our joint accounts are frozen under court order! Pick up the phone!

Two minutes later, another text, this time frantic: Mom is freaking out. The caterer is calling demanding payment or they’re canceling the venue. Where are you?!

I didn't reply. I simply archived the thread, blocked his number from my personal line, and directed all future communication straight to Marcus’s legal team.

At 10:00 AM, the office door opened, and Marcus walked in holding a tablet with a triumphant grin.

“It’s even better than we anticipated,” Marcus announced, pulling up a chair across from my desk. “The moment our asset-freeze injunction hit Ethan’s operating accounts, his primary investors panicked. They’ve launched an internal audit into his startup’s books, and guess what they found?”

“Embezzlement?” I guessed, sipping my coffee.

“Worse. Complete fabrication of client metrics. Ethan’s company has been operating as a Ponzi scheme for the last two years, using fresh capital injections from secondary investors to pay off primary debts. The SEC is already reviewing the file we sent over this morning.”

I felt a profound wave of relief wash over me. The man who had stood in front of the door blocking my exit, watching his mother shove a pregnant woman into a wall, was currently watching his entire professional life burn to the ground.

And the best part? I didn't lift a finger. I just let the truth do what it does best: destroy lies.

Around noon, my assistant buzzed through the intercom.

“Ava, you have an unexpected visitor in the lobby. Margaret Parker. She’s demanding to see you, and security is currently holding her back.”

I looked up, a cold, serene smile touching my lips.

“Send her up,” I said quietly. “Let’s see how the queen handles losing her crown.”
