Chapter 6 - A Legacy of LightOne year later.

The grand dining room of the Vance estate in Lake Forest was filled with sunlight and the aroma of fresh baking.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the sprawling green gardens stretched toward the lake, where two heavy German Shepherds were playing tag with a six-year-old girl in a bright pink dress.

Inside, Brielle stood at the head of the long oak table, arranging a vase of fresh yellow wildflowers.

She wore a simple, elegant navy dress, a delicate diamond ring sparkling on her left hand. Her palm still bore a faint, silver scar from the iron rod—a badge of honor she no longer tried to hide.

Over the past twelve months, the Vance empire had undergone a massive, quiet transformation.

Under Brielle's influence, Dante had funneled millions of dollars into legitimate community projects across the South Side—rebuilding homeless shelters, funding after-school programs for underprivileged youth, and creating a private foundation named The Clara Dawson Trust to support children affected by city violence.

The street king of Chicago was still feared by his enemies, but in the neighborhoods where people used to hide from his name, he was now seen as a protector.

The heavy glass doors opened, and Dante stepped into the room.

He looked younger than he had a year ago. The dark circles under his eyes were gone, his smile came easily now, and his ice-blue eyes held a constant, steady warmth.

He walked up behind Brielle, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her back against his chest, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"You're late," Brielle teased, leaning back into his warmth. "The foundation board meeting was supposed to end at three."

"Leo wouldn't stop complaining about the budget for the new youth center," Dante chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to her neck. "I told him if he cut a single dollar from your project, I'd assign him to guard detail at the docks for a month."

"You're a bully, Dante Vance," she laughed, turning in his arms to wrap her hands around his neck.

"Only for you, sweetheart," he murmured, looking down at her with unbounded adoration.

From the garden, Lily came running through the open doors, her pink dress covered in grass stains, holding a fresh yellow wildflower in her hand.

"Daddy! Brielle! Look!" Lily cheered, sprinting across the floor, throwing herself into their legs.

Dante scooped his daughter up in one arm, while keeping his other arm firmly wrapped around Brielle's waist.

"What do you have there, Lily-bug?" Dante asked, smiling at his daughter.

"A flower for Brielle!" Lily declared proudly, handing the bright yellow blossom to her. "Grandma said yellow means happiness!"

Brielle took the flower, her eyes shining with joyful tears as she looked from the little girl to the man holding them both.

Eleven years ago, she had lost everything in a dark apartment on Ashland Avenue. She had lived like a ghost, running from the pain, working long hours in a cheap diner, waiting for a life that felt real.

She had grabbed a broken chair leg to save two strangers in a dirty alley, expecting to die on the asphalt.

Instead, she had found a family. She had found a king who bowed only to her, a little girl who gave her back her heart, and a love that had built a legacy of light out of the shadows of the past.

"She's right," Brielle whispered, tucking the yellow flower behind her ear, leaning up to press her lips against Dante's. "Yellow means happiness."

Dante smiled against her mouth, holding his wife and daughter tight as the warm Chicago sun washed over their home, illuminating a future that no shadow could ever touch again.
