Chapter 5 - The Trap is Sprung

The massive iron security gates of the Westchester estate groaned under the weight of three black-and-white police cruisers and an unmarked federal transport van idling on the wet asphalt.
Inside the grand foyer, the heavy oak doors stood wide open.
A tall, silver-haired man in an immaculate bespoke suit stepped across the threshold, flanked by two armed federal marshals and local precinct officers. It was Harrison Vance, senior vice-president of Sterling Bio-Pharma—a man whose smile was as razor-sharp and toxic as the chemical compounds his laboratories synthesized.
"Alexander," Harrison purred smoothly, spreading his arms wide as if he were visiting an old friend rather than leading a hostile corporate raid. "I must say, your security protocol is quite impressive. But harboring a fugitive federal suspect? That crosses the line from eccentric billionaire into criminal accomplice."
Alexander descended the grand staircase with slow, deliberate grace. Olivia stood a few steps behind him, her hands clenched into tight fists at her sides, her eyes blazing with defiance.
"You're trespassing, Harrison," Alexander said coldly, stepping onto the marble floor of the foyer and positioning himself squarely between Harrison and Olivia. "And you're standing in a federal investigation zone. My security team has already transmitted the complete forensic extraction of the Neocore trial data directly to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan."
Harrison’s smooth, confident facade flickered for a fraction of a second. A bead of sweat formed at his temple, though he quickly masked it with a patronizing chuckle.
"You think the Department of Justice cares about fabricated files stolen by a disgruntled resident?" Harrison scoffed, waving a paper document in the air. "I have a magistrate judge’s warrant signed at 4:00 AM this morning ordering the immediate seizure of Dr. Hayes and every digital asset in this estate. Take them into custody!"
The two federal marshals stepped forward, their hands resting on the holsters of their sidearms.
"Don't take another step," a calm, authoritative voice echoed from the top of the stairs.
Marcus stepped onto the landing, holding a high-definition tactical tablet linked directly to a live secure feed.
"Special Agent Vance from the FBI’s White Collar Crime Division," Marcus announced loudly, reading from the display. "He just executed an emergency counter-warrant based on the whistleblower file Dr. Hayes provided. Harrison Vance, you are formally under arrest for conspiracy, clinical fraud, and the obstruction of a federal health investigation."
Harrison’s face turned the color of ash. "That's a lie! Fabricated rubbish!"
Behind Harrison, the heavy iron gates at the end of the driveway swung open again. Three unmarked black SUVs bearing federal insignia rolled up silently, their lights flashing crimson and blue against the autumn foliage. Agent Vance—the real federal investigator—stepped out of the lead vehicle, accompanied by four armed agents who immediately surrounded Harrison’s local officers.
"Harrison Vance," federal agent Vance stated clearly, walking right up to the corporate executive and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
"You can't do this!" Harrison shrieked, thrashing against the cuffs as the agents dragged him toward the waiting federal van. "Sterling is destroying the company! He's ruining everything!"
"I'm saving it," Alexander called out coldly as the doors of the van slammed shut, locking the corrupt executive away from the empire he had tried to manipulate through murder and deceit.
As the sirens wailed into the distance, fading down the winding country road, the grand foyer fell into a profound, breathless silence.
Olivia stood on the stairs, watching the red and blue lights fade into the night. The weight that had crushed her chest for months—the suffocating fear of the system, the terror of standing alone against billions of dollars in corporate corruption—simply evaporated into thin air.
Alexander turned around, looking up at her. The cold, unapproachable armor of the billionaire CEO was entirely gone, replaced by an expression of raw, open devotion.
He climbed the stairs slowly, stopping one step below her so they were eye to eye.
"It's over," he whispered, lifting his hand to brush a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear. "You won."
Olivia let out a ragged, watery laugh, a single tear escaping down her cheek. She reached out and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder as the last remnants of her exhaustion melted away into his embrace.

"We won," she corrected softly against his collar.
And in that quiet moment, surrounded by the shadows of a storm they had weathered together, they knew the worst was finally behind them.
