Chapter 3 - Executing Protocol Phantom

The next morning, the blizzard had passed, leaving behind a frozen, silent world. I sat in the executive war room of the regional military headquarters, surrounded by four of the top forensic financial investigators from the Defense Intelligence Agency. The room was warm, filled with the aroma of strong coffee and the sharp, clinical hum of high-speed secure servers.

"Give me the complete breakdown of their corporate vulnerabilities," I ordered, my eyes fixed on the massive digital displays lining the wall.

Major Ortiz tapped her interface, bringing up the complex web of holdings that comprised the Meridian Hospitality Group.

"It's a house of cards, Ethan," Lena said, her expression grim. "Richard used your trust fund as the foundational collateral for their entire corporate expansion over the last eighteen months. He forged your signature on a series of unconditional corporate guarantees. If those guarantees are declared invalid due to the active fraud investigation—which they will be by noon today—the banks have the legal right to execute an immediate margin call on every single hotel asset they own."

"And Kyle?" I asked, my fingers tapping against the mahogany table.

"Your younger brother has been running a secondary embezzlement scheme within the company's regional supply chain," an analyst reported, bringing up a series of red-flagged invoices. "He’s been diverting corporate maintenance funds into a private sports-gambling syndicate based out of Costa Rica. He owes over $1.2 million to some incredibly dangerous offshore entities. He was counting on the liquidation of your house to cover his debts before the audit next week."

I stood up, walking over to the window, looking out at the snow-covered runway where military transport planes were taking off. My family had looked at my wife—a quiet, dedicated woman who had given up her accounting career to raise our child while I was fighting in the shadows—and they saw an easy target. They thought her vulnerability was weakness. They had no idea that behind her stood the entire structural intelligence apparatus of the United States military.

"Lena," I said, my voice carrying the absolute chill of the winter outside. "Execute Protocol Phantom. I want every single corporate line of credit associated with the Meridian Group frozen under the Federal Elder and Dependent Financial Protection Act. Issue an immediate administrative seizure of their corporate private jets, their luxury vehicles, and their personal bank accounts. Leave them exactly enough liquidity to pay for a standard court-appointed public defender."

"What about their personal properties?" Lena asked with a knowing smile.

"The penthouses in Manhattan, the beach house in Malibu, the ski chalet in Aspen—they were all cross-collateralized using my trust fund," I replied. "Evict them all. Change the biometric codes by 1:00 p.m. Let’s see how much luxury my mother can find when she’s standing on the sidewalk in the slush."
