Chapter 4 - The Grand GalaThe Grand Meridian Hotel downtown glittered under a canopy of crystal chandeliers and expensive camera flashes. Inside the opulent ballroom, Chicago’s elite, high-ranking union bosses, and syndicate capos mingled over champagne, waiting for the keynote address by Marcus Bellaro.

I stood near the back of the ballroom, wearing a sleek, tailored emerald gown that Lorenzo had quietly provided—a far cry from my simple nurse's uniform, though I still carried my medical bag disguised as an evening clutch. Lorenzo stood beside me, immaculate in a bespoke black tuxedo, radiating an aura of lethal, unshakeable power.
At 9:00 PM sharp, Marcus Bellaro stepped up to the podium on the raised stage, smiling like a man who believed he had just checkmated a king.
"Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed partners," Marcus began, his voice booming over the sound system. "We live in a world built on strength, lineage, and stability. Unfortunately, recent events regarding my nephew Lorenzo’s household have demonstrated a concerning vulnerability..."
He paused, glancing out toward the entrance doors, expecting Lorenzo to be absent or discredited.
Instead, the double doors swung open with a sharp, echoing crash.
Lorenzo walked down the center aisle, his stride completely unhurried, his eyes locked onto his uncle. I walked step-for-step beside him, while four armed security guards secured the perimeter of the room.
A collective murmur rippled through the crowd.
Marcus’s smile faltered, replaced by a sudden, ugly panic. "Lorenzo... I wasn't aware you’d be joining us. Especially given your son's critical condition..."
"My son is resting comfortably, Marcus," Lorenzo interrupted, his voice cutting through the ballroom like a knife. "In fact, his doctors tell me he’s never been healthier—largely because we finally removed the poison from his nursery."
The room went dead silent.

Marcus gripped the edges of the podium, his knuckles turning white. "You're delusional. Grief has clearly affected your mind—"
"I'm not delusional at all, Uncle," Lorenzo said, stepping right up to the base of the stage. He signaled toward the massive projection screens behind Marcus. "Why don't we show everyone what true family loyalty looks like?"
