Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

The executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Vale Biotech Tower was a monument to corporate glass and chrome, overlooking the entire sprawling cityscape. At 9:00 a.m., the atmosphere inside was electric with tension. All fourteen board members sat around the massive oval quartz table, their expressions grim, their tablets open to the emergency press releases detailing the shocking arrest of Margaret and Victor Vale just twenty-four hours prior.
At the head of the table sat Arthur Pendelton, a long-time associate of my father-in-law and the senior board member who had been covertly aligned with Margaret for over a decade. He slammed his gavel down onto a small leather pad.
"Order, please," Pendelton announced, his voice tight with controlled panic. "Given the extraordinary and deeply tragic events of the last twenty-four hours, this corporation faces an existential crisis. The founder is deceased, the primary shareholders are currently detained under highly questionable federal allegations, and our stock price has dropped by twelve percent since the opening bell. We must immediately vote to install an interim management team to secure our core intellectual properties."
He slid a resolution document across the digital display. "I move that we appoint a temporary operations committee led by myself and backed by the institutional shares held by the Vale Family Trust."
"I object to that vote," a voice rang out from the back of the chamber.
The double frosted-glass doors swung open. I walked into the room first, carrying a thick black binder containing the certified federal forensic audit. Behind me, his stride long, confident, and absolutely lethal, stepped Daniel Vale.
Three board members stood up so quickly their leather chairs rolled violently against the wall. Pendelton’s jaw dropped, his pen slipping from his fingers to clatter against the table. "Daniel? What... this is an outrage! The media reported... the hospital confirmed..."
"The media reported what my mother paid them to report, Arthur," Daniel said, walking directly to the head of the table. He didn't sit down. He stood right behind Pendelton's chair, leaning down until he was inches from the older man's face. "And the hospital records have been seized by the Department of Justice. I suggest you step away from my chair before I have the federal marshals waiting in the lobby come up and assist you."
Pendelton scrambled out of the seat, his face turning an translucent white as he retreated to the far side of the room. Daniel sat down at the head of the table, pulling the master microphone toward him.
"Clara, please present the true state of the corporation," Daniel ordered, his eyes scanning the room, locking onto two other board members who had been quietly working with Victor behind the scenes.
I stepped up to the main display terminal, inserting an encrypted federal drive.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," I said, my voice carrying the absolute authority of a decade of state prosecutions. "Over the last twelve months, Arthur Pendelton, Victor Vale, and Margaret Vale have systematically utilized a network of offshore shell companies to devalue Vale Biotech's primary assets. They were deliberately forcing a synthetic stock drop to allow an external hostile takeover by Gen-Tech Global—a competitor entirely owned by a foreign sovereign wealth fund."
I clicked to the next slide, displaying the signed agreements we had pulled from Victor's private vault just hours before.
The Treason: A secret protocol to transfer all cellular regeneration patents out of US jurisdiction.
The Payoff: A guaranteed $50 million payout divided among the three conspirators, hidden within corporate consulting contracts.
The Execution: The premeditated elimination of Daniel Vale to bypass the biometric trust keys.
"This isn't a corporate management dispute," I concluded, looking directly at the remaining board members. "This is an active criminal syndicate operating within this boardroom. The SEC has already suspended trading on all insider shares associated with the Vale Family Trust, and the federal government has issued a protective management order, placing voting control directly into the hands of the primary inventor and founder—Daniel Vale."

Daniel leaned back in his chair, his expression carved from granite. "Arthur, you have exactly five minutes to sign a voluntary resignation from this board and a full surrender of your corporate options before the grand jury adds your name to the indictment for corporate treason. The rest of you have a choice to make: you can vote to confirm Clara as the new Chief Financial Officer of Vale Biotech right now, or you can join Arthur in the lobby."
Within thirty seconds, every single hand around that table went up in absolute, terrified unanimity. The boardroom coup was over in less than ten minutes, and the empire had been reclaimed.
