Chapter 6 - A Home Built on LoveOne month later.

The autumn sun shone brilliantly over the gardens of the Lake Forest estate. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air, replacing every lingering trace of smoke and darkness.

The ballroom, fully restored with brand-new glass and golden chandeliers, was filled once again. But this time, there were no mafia bosses, no cold political bargains, and no terrified guests.

The room was filled with real friends, staff members who had become family, and charity workers from the Serena Hale Foundation.

I stood at the front of the altar in a tailored black tuxedo, watching the double doors open.

Oliver, looking dapper in his matching suit, walked down the aisle first, carrying a velvet ring pillow with a proud, beaming smile on his face. He walked right up to me, tapped my leg, and whispered, "You look good, Dad."

"Thanks, buddy," I smiled, winking at him. "You too."

Then the music shifted into a breathtaking classical arrangement.

Emma walked down the aisle on the arm of an elderly uncle who had flown in for the wedding. She wore an elegant, simple white lace gown that took my breath away. She didn't look like a maid. She didn't look like a victim of circumstance.

She looked like a queen.

When her hand met mine at the altar, the electric touch sent a wave of warmth through my entire body.

"We are gathered here today," the minister began, "to join these two souls in holy matrimony."

When it came time for the vows, I didn't read from a prepared script. I looked directly into Emma's hazel eyes and held both of her hands in mine.

"Emma," I said, my voice echoing clearly through the ballroom. "For two years, I lived in a world of absolute darkness. I thought money and power could protect me from pain, but all they did was isolate me. You came into my home and brought my son back to life with a single song. But more than that... you brought me back to life."

I slipped the diamond band onto her finger.

"I promise to love you, protect you, and honor you for the rest of my days. You are my home."

Tears streamed down Emma’s cheeks as she smiled up at me.

"Preston," she said softly, "I used to think that love was something fragile that got broken by the world. But you showed me that true love is strong enough to stand against anything. I promise to stand by your side, to build a life of peace with you, and to love you and Oliver with everything I have."

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared. "You may kiss the bride."

I pulled Emma into my arms and kissed her deeply, as the entire ballroom erupted into joyful applause and cheers.

Oliver ran up, wrapping his arms around both of our legs, and we pulled him up between us, laughing and holding each other tight.

As the sun set over Lake Forest, casting a warm golden glow across our home, I looked at my wife and my son.

The silence was gone forever—replaced by the sweetest music of all.
