Chapter 6 - A New FoundationSix months later, the grounds of the Howerin estate looked more breathtaking than they ever had. The autumn leaves were turning shades of amber and gold, swirling across the stone pathways where I had once pushed a wheelbarrow and pulled stubborn weeds.

The greenhouse had been fully restored. Its glass panels were spotless, gleaming in the October sunlight.
Inside, the potting tables were covered not with garden tools, but with architectural sketches and landscape designs for the new community gardens we were building across Savannah in honor of my father.
The heavy oak doors of the garden pavilion opened, and footsteps crunched softly on the gravel path.
I didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
Emmett walked up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin gently on my shoulder. He wore a simple dark sweater instead of his usual charcoal overcoat, looking relaxed, grounded, and entirely at home.
"The city council approved the foundation grants," Emmett whispered into my hair, his breath warm against my neck. "Every single port terminal is officially audited and clean. Your father's name is restored. And the estate looks... magnificent."
I turned within his arms, resting my hands against his chest, right over his heart. The silver ring his father had worn caught the light as it brushed against his shirt.
"You know," I murmured, a smile playing on my lips, "when I first jumped out at the gate and grabbed your sleeve, I thought I was just saving your life for thirty seconds."
"Instead, you saved my entire world," Emmett replied softly.

He leaned down, and his lips met mine—gentle, unhurried, and filled with a profound, unshakable certainty. There were no hidden recorders, no ticking bombs, no forged contracts, and no traitors waiting in the shadows.
Just the quiet rustle of the magnolia leaves in the wind, the steady hum of the river in the distance, and a future built on truth, justice, and a love that had bloomed in the dirt.
