Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

The entire room went dead silent. Daniel froze mid-gesture, a stack of corporate printouts clutched in his hand. His father, Richard, who was sitting at the head of the table sipping his morning espresso, choked on his drink.
"Evelyn?" Daniel stammered, his eyes narrowing as he took in my suit, my posture, and the two lawyers flanking me. Then, his arrogance reasserted itself. His face contorted into a mask of pure fury. "What the hell are you doing here? Get out of this room right now. Security!"
"Security isn't coming, Daniel," Maya Chen said, stepping forward and placing a thick legal binder on the center of the conference table. "Actually, the building's security detail has already been replaced by a private firm answering directly to the majority shareholder of this corporation."
Richard stood up, slamming his hands on the table. "What is the meaning of this charade? Evelyn, you are a housewife. You don't belong in this room. Daniel has the signed proxy forms. Your voting rights are nullified!"
"Look at the proxy forms, Richard," I said, walking to the empty chair opposite him and sitting down calmly. I crossed my legs and looked directly at my husband. "Look closely at the document Daniel claimed I signed."
Daniel threw the papers down in front of the board members. "It's right here! She signed it digitally on Tuesday!"
"No, Daniel," I said softly. "You copied a digital signature from a draft document that contained an explicit watermark labeling it as 'Invalid/Trial Document Only.' Furthermore, the trust routing number you attached to that form belongs to a shell account holding exactly four dollars and twenty cents. You didn't secure my voting rights. What you did do, however, was commit third-degree felony forgery on a corporate document, which I have already reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission."
Daniel’s face drained of color. He looked down at the documents, his fingers trembling as he realized the trap had just snapped shut around his wrists.
"You think you're smart?" Richard hissed, stepping protective in front of his son. "Even without your trust shares, I am the founder of this company! You can't oust us!"
"I can, and I am," I replied, opening my own laptop—the same laptop they had mocked for years. I connected it to the boardroom's main projector screen.
Large, terrifyingly detailed financial graphs bloomed across the wall. "Over the past eighteen months, CEO Daniel Blackwood has systematically diverted $4.2 million from the employee pension fund into a private account registered under the name 'DB Luxury Holdings' in Panama. That account isn't a development project, Richard. It's a personal liquidation account. He was planning to leave the country next month with his mistress, Vanessa, leaving you and Patricia to face the music when the federal audit hit."
Daniel looked like he was about to vomit. He turned to his father, his voice cracking. "Dad... she's lying... she's making it up..."
"I don't make up numbers, Daniel. I'm a forensic accountant," I said, turning the screen to show a live stream of the bank transfers, fully authenticated by the federal authorities. "And as the majority shareholder representing 51% of Blackwood Manufacturing, I am officially calling for an immediate vote to terminate Daniel Blackwood as CEO, effective immediately, and strip Richard Blackwood of his board seat for gross negligence."

The three minor board members didn't even hesitate. They looked at the evidence of the stolen pensions—their own pensions included—and raised their hands.
"The motion carries," I said, shutting my laptop. "Now, Daniel, let's talk about what happened at dinner last night."
