Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

Six months later.
The morning sun poured through the arched glass windows of the Salvatierra estate in Lomas de Chapultepec, bathing the grand salon in a warm, golden light.
The air smelled of fresh roses, brewed coffee, and sweet pastries.
Outside on the manicured lawn, little Sofia—now sporting a healthy pink glow in her cheeks and a bright yellow bow in her hair—was running in circles, chasing a golden retriever puppy while giggling uncontrollably.
“Careful, sweetheart!” Clara called out from the terrace, holding a fresh glass of orange juice.
“She’s fine,” a deep, warm voice murmured from behind her.
Strong arms wrapped around Clara’s waist, pulling her back against a solid, comforting chest. Víctor rested his chin on her shoulder, watching their daughter with a look of profound, enduring peace.
The corporate fallout had been catastrophic for the holding company’s corrupt factions, but Víctor had navigated the storm with ruthless efficiency. Ignacio Silva was already serving a life sentence without parole, and the shadow network of child trafficking and corporate fraud had been completely dismantled and handed over to federal oversight. Salvatierra Holdings had emerged leaner, cleaner, and entirely restructured as a global philanthropic enterprise focused on pediatric health and family advocacy.
More importantly, the fortress of glass and steel had finally been turned into a home.
“You know,” Clara said softly, leaning back into his embrace, “the last time I stood on a terrace like this, I thought my life was completely over.”
“Your life was just waiting for the right beginning,” Víctor replied, turning her around in his arms so she was facing him. He reached up, gently tracing his thumb over the soft curve of her cheek—right where the faint crescent birthmark rested. “And so was mine.”
Clara smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. “You know, you’re not nearly as cold and terrifying as you pretend to be, Mr. Salvatierra.”
“Only for you and our daughter,” Víctor whispered before leaning down to capture her lips in a deep, tender kiss.
From across the lawn, little Sofia stopped running. She dropped her toy, looked over at them standing together on the terrace, and broke into a bright, sunny grin.
“Mama! Papa!” she shouted, running back toward the steps as fast as her little legs could carry her.
Clara and Víctor pulled apart, laughing as they knelt down to catch their daughter in a simultaneous embrace, lifting her up into the golden morning air.

The past was buried. The fake ashes in the white box were long gone, replaced by the living, breathing miracle of a tomorrow they would build together.
For the first time in her life, Clara looked out at the horizon, and for the first time, she knew she was exactly where she belonged.
