Chapter 6 - The King and His Queen

Six months later.

The rain fell over Baltimore once again, but this time, the city felt different. The corrupt syndicates had been dismantled, the docks were cleansed of extortion, and the name Dominic Russo was no longer whispered in sheer terror—it was spoken with the enduring respect of a true king who protected his domain.

Inside the grand ballroom of the Russo estate, crystal chandeliers blazed with light.

It was an event the city’s elite had never expected to witness: a wedding.

Clara stood before the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the east wing, wearing a gown of ivory silk and lace that flowed around her like water. Her dark hair was swept up with diamond-encrusted pins, and her eyes shone with absolute peace.

Noah stepped into the room, leaning against the doorframe with a rare, approving smile on his scarred face.

“The guests are seated, boss,” Noah said, catching himself with a smirk. “Well, the bride’s boss, anyway.”

Clara laughed, turning to face him. “Thank you, Noah. For everything.”

“Don’t thank me yet. Wait until you see the wedding present Dom got you,” Noah teased, stepping aside.

Dominic walked into the room, dressed in a sharp, impeccably tailored black tuxedo. He looked breathtakingly dangerous and impossibly handsome. When his eyes landed on Clara, the cold, impenetrable facade melted away entirely, leaving behind the raw, unadulterated devotion of a man who had found his anchor in the middle of a hurricane.

He crossed the room in three long strides, taking her hands in his.

“You’re shaking,” he murmured, a teasing smile playing on his lips.

“I’m not shaking,” she lied, her heart fluttering. “It’s just... the cold.”

Dominic pulled her against his chest, wrapping his arms around her waist, burying his face in her neck just as he had done in the dark days of their beginning.

“There is no more cold, Clara,” he whispered fiercely against her skin. “The storm is over.”

“What was the wedding present, by the way?” she asked, looking up through her lashes.

Dominic reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a small, heavy iron key, placing it gently into her palm.

“The deed and the keys to the old apartment building where you used to live,” he said softly. “I bought the block last week. We’re tearing it down and building a community center for single mothers and displaced women. Funded entirely by Russo Enterprises, managed by a foundation bearing your name.”

Tears welled up in Clara’s eyes, spilling over her lashes. She threw her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder.

“You didn't have to do that,” she choked out, smiling through her tears.

“I had to,” Dominic murmured into her hair, holding her tighter as the music from the grand ballroom began to swell through the double doors. “I had to make sure no other girl ever has to sit in the mud alone in the rain.”

He pulled back, offering her his arm with a quiet, devastating elegance.

“Are you ready to meet our future, Mrs. Russo?”

Clara smiled, slipping her hand through the crook of his arm, feeling the solid, unbreakable strength of the man who had pulled her out of the shadows.

“Let’s go,” she said.

Together, the king and his queen walked out of the shadows and straight into the light, ready to rule an empire built not on fear, but on a love that had survived the storm.
