PART 2 — The Man Who Stood Up

The kick landed hard enough to send a gasp through the ballroom.

For a second, nobody moved.

The orchestra stopped playing.

Champagne glasses froze halfway to lips.

Even the waiters stood still.

Elisa curled instinctively around her stomach.

Pain exploded through her side.

Her breath caught.

Not because of the humiliation.

Not because of the hundreds of eyes watching.

Because her baby suddenly stopped moving.

Fear flooded her chest.

No.

Please no.

She pressed trembling hands against her belly.

"Baby..."

Her voice barely emerged.

Across the ballroom, several guests looked away in discomfort.

Others pulled out their phones.

But nobody stepped forward.

Nobody except one man.

A gray-haired gentleman in a black tuxedo rose slowly from a VIP table near the front.

Don Evaristo Salgado.

Owner of Grupo Salgado.

Owner of Gran Hotel Reforma.

One of the wealthiest men in Mexico.

And Elisa's father.

He had arrived late to the gala after a meeting with international investors.

He had been speaking with government officials when the commotion started.

At first he hadn't recognized the woman on the floor.

The wine-covered dress.

The lowered head.

The tears.

Then he heard her voice.

One word.

"Baby..."

And his entire world stopped.

Because he knew that voice.

Years earlier, Elisa had walked away from the Salgado fortune.

Not because she hated her father.

Because she wanted independence.

She wanted a life where people loved her for herself.

Not for her last name.

Don Evaristo had disagreed.

They argued.

Harsh words were exchanged.

Months turned into years.

The distance grew.

But he never stopped loving her.

Never.

And now...

His daughter was lying on the floor.

Pregnant.

Crying.

And a man had just kicked her.

The room suddenly felt too small.

Dangerously small.

Valeria was still smiling.

IvĂĄn was straightening his suit jacket.

Trying to look important.

Trying to look successful.

Trying to ignore the woman he had just assaulted.

Then a voice thundered across the ballroom.

"Get away from her."

The entire room turned.

Don Evaristo was already crossing the floor.

His expression wasn't angry.

It was worse.

It was controlled.

The kind of control powerful men have right before someone loses everything.

Valeria blinked.

"I—"

"Move."

She moved.

Immediately.

Evaristo dropped to one knee beside Elisa.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then his eyes filled with pain.

"Mi niña..."

My little girl.

Elisa looked up.

Her breath caught.

"Dad?"

The room exploded into whispers.

Dad?

Did she say Dad?

No...

Not him.

Not Don Evaristo Salgado.

Not the owner.

Not the billionaire.

IvĂĄn suddenly went pale.

Very pale.

Because he recognized the name.

Everyone in Mexico recognized the name.

And suddenly pieces began falling into place.

The intelligence.

The quiet confidence.

The refusal to chase money.

The fact that she never seemed impressed by status.

His stomach dropped.

"No..."

Evaristo carefully helped Elisa sit up.

"What happened?"

His voice was calm.

Elisa hesitated.

Years of protecting others.

Years of making excuses.

Years of silence.

Then she looked at IvĂĄn.

The man she loved.

The man who should have protected her.

The man who kicked her.

And she finally spoke.

"He did."

Silence.

Dead silence.

Every eye shifted toward IvĂĄn.

Don Evaristo stood.

Slowly.

Dangerously.

The room seemed colder.

"IvĂĄn Montes."

The younger man's throat tightened.

"Sir, there's been a misunderstanding—"

"A misunderstanding?"

His voice remained quiet.

"You assaulted my pregnant daughter."

"No, sir, she fell—"

Hundreds of witnesses stared.

Phones recorded.

Nobody believed him.

Not even Valeria.

Then security arrived.

Six large men in black suits.

Not hotel security.

Salgado security.

The kind that protected executives and presidents.

Evaristo pointed once.

At IvĂĄn.

Then at Valeria.

"Remove them."

Valeria's confidence evaporated instantly.

"You can't do this!"

"I own this building."

Two guards took her arms.

She started screaming.

Nobody helped.

IvĂĄn tried another approach.

He rushed toward Elisa.

"Baby, tell them."

The word sounded disgusting now.

Elisa stared at him.

No emotion.

No tears.

Nothing.

For the first time, she saw him clearly.

Not the man she hoped he would become.

The man he already was.

"You kicked me."

Three words.

Simple.

Final.

The guards grabbed him.

His face twisted.

"Elisa!"

No response.

"ELISA!"

Still nothing.

Then he was dragged toward the exit.

Humiliated.

Powerless.

Finished.

But Don Evaristo wasn't finished.

Not even close.

As paramedics checked Elisa and confirmed the baby still had a heartbeat, Evaristo made a phone call.

A very important call.

"Cancel Urbania Arquitectos' proposal."

The executive on the other end paused.

"Sir?"

"Effective immediately."

"But it's worth eighty million dollars."

"I know."

Click.

Across the city, phones began ringing.

Contracts were reviewed.

Partnerships were suspended.

Investors became nervous.

Questions started spreading.

Why was Grupo Salgado pulling out?

Why had Urbania suddenly lost its biggest opportunity?

Why were lawyers involved?

The answer was simple.

Because one arrogant man had kicked the wrong woman.

Later that night, in a private hospital owned by Grupo Salgado, Elisa lay in a hospital bed while doctors monitored her baby.

Thankfully, the child was safe.

Bruised.

Shaken.

But safe.

Evaristo sat beside her.

For the first time in years.

Silence stretched between them.

Then Elisa spoke.

"I'm sorry."

He looked at her.

"For what?"

"For leaving angry."

Evaristo smiled sadly.

"I should be apologizing."

She blinked.

"What?"

"I cared more about protecting the family name than protecting my daughter."

Tears filled her eyes.

Years of hurt.

Years of distance.

Years of missing each other.

Finally breaking apart.

He took her hand.

And for the first time in a very long time...

Father and daughter began finding their way back to each other.

Meanwhile, across town, IvĂĄn's nightmare was only beginning.

Because by sunrise...

May you like

The video of him kicking his pregnant wife would be everywhere.

And the entire country would know exactly who he was.
