Chapter 6 - The Lake House Sunset

The mountains surrounding Valle de Bravo stood tall and majestic against a sky painted in brilliant strokes of gold, amber, and deep violet. The storm had completely cleared, leaving the air crisp, pure, and smelling faintly of pine and damp earth.

On the wide wooden dock extending out over the serene, glass-like lake, two figures stood side by side.

Marisol wore a simple cream-colored cashmere sweater and dark jeans, the gentle evening breeze catching the ends of her dark hair. Her hand rested comfortably in Damián’s strong, steady palm. The past—the small office in Del Valle, the betrayal in the Lomas mansion, the cruel laughter on Presidente Masaryk, and the sudden, thunderous collapse of an empire—felt lifetimes away, reduced to distant echoes in a story that had finally found its proper ending.

“Are you at peace, Marisol?” Damián asked softly, turning his head to look down at her, his eyes filled with a deep, unwavering devotion.

Marisol turned her gaze from the setting sun and looked up at her husband. She saw no shadows in his eyes, only a profound, enduring sanctuary that she had fought tooth and nail to reach—and that he had built a fortress to protect.

She smiled, a radiant, genuine expression that reached all the way to her soul.

“I am completely at peace, Damián,” she whispered, leaning her head gently against his shoulder as they watched the sun dip below the horizon, bathing their future in a warm, unshakeable light.
