Chapter 5 - The Test
Three months later, the Grand Meridian hosted the Metropolitan Gala. It was the highest-pressure event of the year. The press was there, the critics were there, and the old-money crowd—the people who had once scoffed at Marcus’s expansion—were waiting for him to fail.
A group of protestors stood outside, calling out the historical elitism of the hospitality industry. In the past, the security team would have cleared them out forcefully.
Marcus walked out to the front doors. The head of security approached him, tense. "Sir, we have the clearance to move them."

"Don't," Marcus said. He signaled to the catering staff. "Bring them coffee. It’s cold out here. And ask if they have a spokesperson who wants to come inside and explain their grievances to our board."
The room went silent. The elite guests watched, stunned. The protest, which was meant to be a spectacle, turned into a dialogue. Marcus sat on the steps of the lobby, speaking with the organizers, listening to them. He wasn't just managing a hotel; he was managing a community.
