Chapter 6 - The Unbreakable VowSix months later, the Baltimore Harbor was alive with the crisp, clean energy of an early spring.

The old abandoned warehouse where Nora had once laid in the dark had been completely demolished, replaced by a sprawling community youth center and public park funded entirely by the Calder Foundation. On the corner of the new property, a plaque dedicated to family resilience and neighborhood safety stood proudly in the sunlight.

Inside the grand ballroom of the Calder estate, the air was filled with the soft strains of a string quartet, the clinking of crystal champagne flutes, and the bright, infectious laughter of children running across the polished hardwood floors.

It wasn't a society wedding designed to impress underworld bosses or corporate rivals. It was an intimate gathering of the people who truly mattered: Mrs. Adler, who had become an honorary grandmother to Caleb; the loyal staff of the estate, who smiled openly as they moved through the rooms; and a very happy nine-year-old boy proudly wearing a miniature tuxedo and holding the leash of a now fully grown golden retriever.

Nora stood before the antique mirror in her bridal suite, adjusting the simple, elegant lace sleeves of her white dress. The reflection looking back at her wasn't the tired, overworked maid who had lived in fear of tomorrow. It was a woman who had survived the fire and emerged stronger, brighter, and deeply loved.

The heavy oak door opened quietly, and Roman stepped inside.

He wore a tailored black tuxedo that fit his broad shoulders to perfection, but his tie was slightly loosened, and his hair was touched by the wind from the balcony. When he saw her standing there, his dark eyes softened with an expression that belonged only to her.

“You look breathtaking,” Roman murmured, walking up behind her and resting his hands gently on her waist.

Nora leaned back against his chest, listening to the steady, reassuring thrum of his heartbeat. She looked up at him through the mirror, a playful smile touching her lips.

“You know, Mr. Calder,” she teased softly, “you never did answer my question from our first morning together.”

Roman raised an eyebrow, resting his chin on her shoulder. “Which question is that?”

“You said you don't drink chamomile tea, and you never say thank you.”

Roman chuckled—a rich, warm sound that filled the room with absolute peace. He turned her around in his arms so she was facing him, his hands resting securely on her waist, holding her as if she were his entire world.

“Things change,” Roman whispered, his voice thick with devotion. “I drink chamomile every night now. Because it reminds me of the woman who taught me how to sleep without nightmares.”

And as he leaned down to kiss her—softly, deeply, and with a promise that spanned eternity—the noise of the world outside faded away entirely.

The empire of the waterfront had a new queen. And this time, the crown was built on love, survival, and a vow that would never, ever be broken.
