Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Ice Queen

The powerful billionaire, whom the media described as ruthless and unapproachable, knelt directly into the soot and ash on the marble floor.
"Grace," Nathaniel said, his voice instantly softening as he looked at her hands. "Show me your hands."
"I'm fine, Mr. Callaway," Grace whispered, trying to pull her hands back, but he gently grabbed her wrists. Her palms were red, blistered, and smeared with black ash.
Nathaniel’s eyes darkened with a dangerous light. He looked at Lily, who was hiding her face in her mother’s shoulder, sobbing quietly. He reached out and gently patted the little girl's curls. "Lily, I am so sorry. I promise you, we are going to fix this."
He stood up, turning to face Vivien and the gathered crowd of Boston's elite. The warmth he had shown the maid and her child vanished, replaced by an icy, terrifying authority.
"This gala is over," Nathaniel announced, his voice echoing off the high ceilings. "Everyone. Leave. Now."
The guests exchanged frantic, shocked looks. "Nathaniel," an older business associate began, "surely we can—"
"Now!" Nathaniel commanded.
Within minutes, the ballroom emptied. The wealthy guests scrambled for their coats, desperate to escape the wrath of Nathaniel Callaway.
Only Vivien remained, standing near the center of the room, her chest heaving with rage and humiliation. Her parents, who had been chatting near the bar, tried to approach, but Nathaniel’s security team blocked them, gesturing firmly toward the exit.
"Nathaniel, you cannot do this to me!" Vivien shrieked, her mask of elegance completely shattering. "You are embarrassing me! Over a maid? Over a piece of garbage stuffed toy? She is a servant! Her child is a nuisance!"
Nathaniel walked slowly toward her, his footsteps heavy and deliberate.
"The only garbage in this room, Vivien, is you," he said quietly.
"We are engaged!" she screamed, pointing at the massive diamond ring on her finger. "We are supposed to be married in six months! You cannot cast me aside for a servant's child!"
"We were never engaged," Nathaniel corrected, his voice dangerously calm. "This party was to announce an engagement. An announcement that will not be happening. Take off the ring."
Vivien stared at him, her eyes wide with disbelief. "No. You're insane. My father’s company is your main logistics partner in the north—"
"I will cancel the contracts by midnight," Nathaniel said without a shred of hesitation. "I will buy out your father’s shares, strip his board seats, and leave your family with nothing but the clothes on your backs if you do not take that ring off and get out of my sight in the next ten seconds."
Vivien looked at him and realized, with a sickening jolt of fear, that he meant every word. Nathaniel Callaway had the power to ruin her family overnight, and he was ready to do it over a burnt stuffed bunny.
Trembling, her eyes wet with tears of anger, she snatched the diamond ring off her finger and threw it at his feet. It clinked against the marble, rolling into the soot.
"You will regret this, Nathaniel," she spat, her voice trembling. "You’ve chosen a pathetic, charity-case maid over me. Boston will laugh at you."

"Let them," Nathaniel said. "Security, escort her off the property. If she ever sets foot on Callaway land again, have her arrested for trespassing."
Two burly security guards stepped forward, grabbing Vivien’s arms and dragging her out of the ballroom as she screamed curses that echoed through the grand hallways.
