Chapter 6 - The Executive SuiteSix months later.

The 42nd floor of Hayes Global Freight had been entirely renovated.

The dark, oppressive mahogany paneling had been replaced with warm, light oak and floor-to-ceiling glass that let the bright morning sunlight flood into the hallway. The air no longer smelled of stale coffee and copper; it smelled of fresh white lilies, ocean breeze, and rich cedar.

The syndicate was completely clean now. The arms shipments were a thing of the past, replaced by legitimate international logistics routes that generated twice the revenue with none of the blood. The FBI files had been permanently closed, and the name Declan Hayes was now spoken in the financial world with awe rather than terror.

In the outer glass office, a new executive assistant—a young, efficient man named David— sat at the desk, answering calls and organizing files.

The heavy double doors of the inner sanctuary stood open.

Inside the massive corner office, sitting behind a sleek white marble desk, was Tessa.

She wore a stunning tailored emerald-green suit that complemented her hazel eyes, her dark hair styled in loose, glamorous waves over her shoulders. On her left hand, a massive oval-cut diamond engagement ring caught the morning sunlight, sparkling brilliantly.

She was no longer the secretary hiding in the shadows. She was the Vice President of Global Logistics, the co-owner of the empire, and the undisputed queen of Declan Hayes's life.

A shadow fell across her desk.

Tessa looked up from her tablet, a warm, radiant smile spreading across her lips.

Declan stood on the other side of the desk. He wore a crisp light-grey three-piece suit, his hair immaculate, his pale blue eyes filled with a deep, boundless devotion that had long since replaced the ice.

He walked around the desk, stopping beside her leather executive chair.

"You're late for our lunch reservation, Mr. Hayes," Tessa teased softly, leaning back and looking up at him with sparkling eyes.

Declan let out a low, smooth chuckle. He reached down, taking her hand and pulling her smoothly out of her chair.

Instead of letting her stand beside him, Declan sat down in her leather chair, pulling her straight onto his lap—just as he had done in the boardroom six months ago.

Tessa laughed, her arms wrapping easily around his neck, her skirt riding up slightly as she settled comfortably against his broad chest.

"Declan," she murmured, her thumb tracing his sharp jawline. "David is right outside. The glass walls are clear."

"Let them look," Declan said smoothly, his arm wrapping around her waist, anchoring her firmly against him. "Let the whole city see who runs this company."

"And who is that?" she whispered, her face inches from his, her lips hovering near his mouth.

Declan leaned in, his lips brushing hers with a deep, lingering tenderness that made her heart race just as fast as it had on the very first day.

"You, Tessa," Declan whispered against her mouth, his hand gently resting over her heart. "You run everything."

She kissed him then—a long, sweet, possessive kiss that celebrated the storm they had survived and the empire they had built together.

The secretary who had tried to stay invisible had captured the king.

And in the glass tower above the city, they reigned together forever.
