Chapter 6 - A New BeginningSix months later, the dust had finally settled.

The divorce was finalized. I had successfully recouped most of the embezzled funds, and Vivian was awaiting trial in a case that looked increasingly dire for her. Ryan, stripped of his lifestyle and unable to maintain his illusion of success, had moved back to his hometown, his life reduced to the reality of his own lack of ambition.
I stood on the balcony of my mansion, watching Emma and Oliver play in the expansive gardens. They were thriving. My mother, free of her pain and the stress of her service, had moved into a beautiful bungalow on the property, where she spent her days tending to the roses she loved.

I looked out over the horizon. I was still the woman who paid the bills, but I was no longer the woman who stayed quiet. I had built an empire, and for the first time, I was the one who decided who was worthy of being part of it.
The phone rang. It was my lawyer.
"The final assets are cleared, Sabrina. You’re entirely independent."
"Thank you," I said.
I hung up the phone and walked out into the garden to join my mother and my children. As I sat down with them, the sun setting in a brilliant display of orange and gold, I knew that the future was ours.

We had survived the fire, and in doing so, we had finally learned how to build a home that couldn't be burned down. I reached out and took my mother’s hand. It was steady, and for the first time in a long time, it didn't hurt.
The life I had enjoyed was no longer something I had to hide or apologize for. It was mine. And it was exactly what we deserved.
