Chapter 6 - The Sun Over VermontOne Year Later.

The warm summer afternoon sun poured over the rolling green hills of Woodstock, Vermont, painting the wide pastures in shades of gold and emerald.

The air smelled of fresh-cut hay, sweet clover, and blooming wild roses.

On the wrap-around porch of a beautifully restored wooden farmhouse, Ethan Whitmore sat in a wooden rocking chair, holding a glass of fresh lemonade. He wore a casual linen shirt and jeans, looking ten years younger, the dark stress lines on his face completely erased.

Down in the pasture, four six-year-old girls in colorful sundresses were running through the grass, laughing hysterically as they chased a golden retriever puppy through the wildflowers.

Their cheeks were full, rosy, and bright with pure, unbridled health and joy.

Beside Ethan on the porch table lay a newspaper clipping from six months ago:

"BIANCA VANCE SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IN FEDERAL PENITENTIARY FOR CHILD ENDANGERMENT, GRAND LARCENY, AND FINANCIAL FRAUD."

Ethan barely glanced at it. The past held no power over his life anymore.

"Daddy! Look!" Ava shouted, running up the porch steps, holding a large bouquet of yellow dandelions. "We made a crown for you!"

Grace, Chloe, and Mia bounded up behind her, their giggles echoing across the quiet valley. They carefully placed the woven dandelion crown on Ethan's head, clapping their hands in delight.

"Do I look like a king?" Ethan laughed, pulling all four of them into a huge, warm hug on the porch sofa.

"You look like our Daddy," Mia smiled, snuggling against his side. "The best Daddy in the whole wide world."

Ethan looked out over the sunlit pasture, holding his four daughters tightly against his chest. He felt Clara's presence in the warm summer breeze, blowing softly through the leaves of the old maple trees.

The dark rooms, the icy silence, the moldy bread, and the cruel lies were gone forever.

In their place stood a real home—built not on corporate wealth or cold marble, but on the unshakeable, eternal foundation of a father's fierce, protective love.
