Chapter 3 - The Crown of Thorns

The Sovereign Star was not just a yacht; it was a floating fortress of luxury and high-tech security, anchored five miles off the coast of Newport.

As the helicopter touched down on the pristine teak helipad, the storm seemed to fade into the background. I was immediately whisked away by a team of elite medical professionals dressed in crisp white uniforms. They didn't ask questions. They worked with silent, gentle efficiency, cleaning the grease and champagne from my skin, treating the blisters on my arms with advanced soothing gels, and dressing me in the softest white silk lounge set I had ever touched.

When they were finished, I was escorted to the yacht’s main salon.

The room was breathtaking. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of the churning Atlantic Ocean. A massive limestone fireplace crackled with a warm, inviting fire. Sitting on a plush velvet sofa was Alexander, a glass of dark amber liquid in his hand.

He stood up the moment I walked in.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, his voice filled with a genuine, protective worry.

"Like I'm stuck in a dream," I admitted, sitting down on the edge of the sofa. My hands, now wrapped in clean, sterile bandages, felt much better, but my mind was still spinning. "Alexander... how did you find me? How is any of this real?"

He sat down beside me, placing his glass on a low mahogany table. He pulled a thick, leather-bound folder from a drawer and opened it, revealing dozens of photographs of me. Some were from my childhood in the foster home; some were of me working at my catering business; some were recent shots of me with Preston.

"We never stopped looking, Amalia," he explained gently. "After our parents’ death, the loyalists who smuggled you out disappeared. We thought you were lost forever. But three months ago, a security agency we hired flagged a DNA sample you submitted to a genealogy database for your catering health clearance. It was an absolute match to the royal lineage of Eldoria."

He paused, his eyes darkening. "I was going to fly to Boston immediately to claim you. But then, my intelligence team informed me that you were engaged to Preston Kensington. I decided to wait, to observe. I wanted to see if they were worthy of you."

"They weren't," I whispered, looking down at my bandaged hands. "I was so desperate for a family, Alexander. I ignored all the red flags. I let them treat me like nothing because I thought... I thought that's what I was. Just an orphan who had to work twice as hard to deserve a place in the world."

Alexander reached out, his hand gently covering mine. "You are a Princess of Eldoria, Amalia. You do not have to prove your worth to anyone. Especially not to parasites like the Kensingtons. They used your kindness and your work ethic as a weapon against you."

"What happens to them now?" I asked, a cold, unfamiliar feeling of anticipation settling in my chest.

"They are ruined," Alexander said simply. "The shipping company is being dismantled as we speak. Their assets are being auctioned off to pay their debts to our sovereign bank. By tomorrow morning, they will have nothing. No house, no cars, no influence. But that is only the beginning."

He leaned forward, his gray eyes flashing with a dangerous light. "I want to give you a choice, sister. You can return to Eldoria with me tomorrow, and we can leave this country behind forever. Or... we can stay in Boston for a few more days, and you can watch them crawl in the dust. You can show them exactly who you are."

I looked out at the dark ocean, the memory of Victoria’s slap and Preston’s cold, dismissive sneer burning in my mind. For years, I had turned the other cheek. I had survived by keeping my head down and working. But looking at the power my brother wielded, looking at the royal blood running through my own veins, I realized something.

Humility was a virtue for survivors. But I was no longer just a survivor.

"We stay," I said, my voice steady and cold. "I want to see Victoria Kensington’s face when she realizes she has to beg the 'gutter rat' for her next meal."

Alexander’s face broke into a proud, brilliant smile. "That is my sister. The blood of the phoenix indeed."
