Chapter 5 - The Arrival of the HeirsThe tension in the ballroom was thick enough to choke on. Armed guards at the doors shifted nervously, looking between Damen and the cold, powerful woman who had just dismantled an empire with a click of her fingers.

"You can take the money, Evelyn," Damen said, his voice dropping into a dark, terrifying register as he tried to regain control. "You can take the ships. But you are still just a lone woman standing in a room full of my men. You have no bloodline. You have no legacy. When you leave this room, you are still empty-handed."

Evelyn smiled. It was a soft, pitying smile that cut deeper than any knife.

"I’m never empty-handed, Damen," she said softly.

She turned toward the grand entrance at the top of the ballroom stairs. "Marcus, bring them down."

The heavy oak doors opened once more. The room held its breath.

Walking down the grand marble staircase, escorted by Marcus and Elena, were three five-year-old boys.

They were dressed in impeccably tailored mini-tuxedos. Luca wore a navy silk pocket square, Marco wore an emerald green one, and Nico—walking right in the center, his chin held high—wore a striking, vibrant red pocket square.

The room gasped. It wasn't just the sight of three beautiful children in a room full of mobsters—it was their faces.

They had the unmistakable, high-boned structure of the Moretti bloodline. And as they reached the foot of the stairs and stopped beside Evelyn, all three boys looked directly at Damen.

Three pairs of striking, icy gray eyes locked onto Damen Moretti.

Damen froze. It was as if a physical shockwave had struck him in the chest. He stumbled back half a step, his glass falling from his hand and shattering against the marble floor. Scotch and crystal sprayed across his expensive shoes, but he didn't even notice.

"No..." Damen whispered, his voice trembling for the first time in his life. "No... you said... you said you lost the baby..."

"I said I left you," Evelyn corrected, her voice echoing with absolute authority. "I never said I came away empty."

Luca stepped forward, looking around the opulent ballroom with calm, analytical eyes, entirely unfazed by the crowd. "Mom," Luca said, his voice small but clear. "Is this the man who sent the black letter?"

"Yes, sweetie," Evelyn said, placing a gentle hand on Luca’s shoulder.

Marco looked Damen up and down, crossing his small arms over his chest. "He broke his glass. That’s messy. He should have to clean it up."

Nico didn't say a word. He stepped past Marcus and walked right up to Damen, stopping just two feet away from the towering mob boss. He looked up, his gray eyes—Damen’s exact eyes—staring into the soul of the man who had terrorized New York for a decade.

"You pull very hard," Nico said quietly, echoing the conversation he’d had with his mother at the brownstone window. "But you don't know where home is."

Damen dropped to one knee, his hands shaking uncontrollably as he looked at the boy. The ruthless mob boss, the man who had never begged or bowed to anyone, was completely broken by the vision standing before him. Three boys. His blood. His sons. Triplets.

"Evelyn..." Damen choked out, looking up at her with raw, desperate eyes full of regret, shock, and agonizing realization. "They’re... they’re mine. My sons..."

"They are my sons, Damen," Evelyn corrected, her voice ice-cold as she looked down at him. "You gave up the right to be called their father the day you chose power over human decency. You wanted to humiliate me tonight. You wanted to show everyone that I was nothing without you. Instead, you get to watch my children inherit everything you used to own, while you leave with nothing."
