Chapter 5 - The Reckoning of the House of LawsonWhile Dominic faced a federal judge inside Courtroom 3B, his mother and sister were discovering the brutal reality of total social and financial ruin across the city.

Eleanor Lawson had attempted to check into an upscale boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco, only to find her credit cards declined across the board. Every personal account tied to her name had been flagged by the financial oversight committee under suspicion of money laundering and receiving stolen corporate dividends.

With nowhere else to go, she and Brooke had retreated to their suburban home—a property they proudly claimed they owned outright, only to discover that the mortgage was still heavily leveraged under a corporate trust controlled by Vance Global.

An eviction notice was already nailed to the front door.

“This is insane!” Brooke shrieked, kicking the front steps of the house as rain began to fall again. “How can they kick us out? We have rights! Call your lawyer, Mom!”

“I don't have a lawyer, Brooke!” Eleanor snapped, her aristocratic facade completely shattered, her hair disheveled, standing in the middle of the driveway surrounded by plastic trash bags containing their remaining clothes. “Every attorney in the city won't even take our calls because we can’t pay the retainer! Audrey has frozen every dime we had!”

A moving truck pulled up to the curb. Two workers stepped out, walking directly past them toward the front door.

“Excuse me, you can’t go in there!” Eleanor shouted, running toward them. “This is our private residence!”

The lead mover didn't even look at her. He pulled a court order from his pocket and held it up. “Writ of possession issued by the San Francisco Superior Court on behalf of Vance Global Holdings. You have ten minutes to clear the sidewalk, ma’am. Everything left behind will be treated as abandoned property.”

Brooke burst into hysterical tears, sinking onto a plastic trash bag in the pouring rain. The realization finally settled over them: they were completely, irreversibly broke. No status, no luxury cars, no designer handbags, and no one willing to rescue them. The empire they had arrogantly believed was theirs had vanished like smoke.
