Chapter 6 - The Flower on the GraveThe afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow over Oakfield Cemetery.

The wet mud that had sucked at Chloe’s cheap shoes six months ago was gone, replaced by a carpet of vibrant green grass and blooming wild daisies.
Chloe walked down the quiet stone path carrying a fresh bouquet of white lilies and blue hydrangeas. She wore a simple white linen dress, her hair blowing gently in the spring breeze.
She stopped at the headstone.
The marble was brand new, polished white granite engraved with deep, gold-leaf lettering:
MARGARET HENDERSON
1938 – 2026
Beloved Mother and Grandmother
"Her Truth Endures Through All Generations"
Beside Margaret’s grave stood a second, newly restored headstone:
SARAH MONTGOMERY HENDERSON
1972 – 1999
Forever Loved, Never Forgotten
Chloe knelt beside her grandmother’s grave and carefully set the flowers down on the grass.
She reached into her small purse and pulled out the blue passbook in its protective sleeve. She didn't bury it in the dirt this time. She placed it gently against the polished granite of the headstone, letting the gold sunlight shine through the clear cover.
"We did it, Grandma," Chloe whispered softly, her eyes brimming with warm, quiet tears. "He didn't get to keep it. None of it."
The quiet rustle of the wind moved through the pine trees overhead, carrying the fresh scent of earth and blooming flowers. For the first time in her life, Chloe didn't feel lonely, frightened, or uncertain about who she was.
She wasn't the forgotten daughter living on borrowed time in her father's house.
She was Chloe Montgomery Henderson—the guardian of her family's name, the protector of her mother's legacy, and a woman who had fought her way through the dark to claim her true birthright.
She heard footsteps on the gravel path behind her and turned.
Tyler walked up the path, wearing a clean collared shirt and carrying a small wooden birdhouse he had built in his forestry workshop.
"Hey, Chloe," Tyler said softly, offering a warm, genuine smile. "Mind if I join you?"

"Come on over, Tyler," Chloe smiled back, standing up and reaching out her hand to her brother.
Together, they stood beside the grave under the bright, clear sky, watching the sunlight play across the green hills of Oakfield—a town that was finally healed, and a family that was finally free.
