PART 3: THE RAT IN THE CELL

By the end of the first week, the drama escalated from a domestic dispute to a full-scale corporate warfare crisis. Grant’s father, the legendary billionaire patriarch patriarch Charles Mercer, arrived at the federal courthouse with an army of lawyers. He didn't come to save his son; he came to save the family name.

Charles Mercer demanded a private audience with Marcus Vance and Agent Jenkins. I watched the live feed from the secure conference room via a closed-circuit camera in my hospital room.

"My son is a fool," Charles Mercer said, tossing a cigar onto the boardroom table. "He’s unstable, he’s reckless, and his behavior toward his wife is abhorrent. The Mercer family does not condone violence. If he did this to Claire, he deserves to rot. But the foundation? The holdings? Those belong to me. My son acted alone in his financial indiscretions."

Marcus Vance smiled, a cold, razor-sharp expression. "Nice try, Charles. But your son didn't act alone. We have the wire transfers signed by your personal secretary. The encryption tokens used to move the stolen cartel funds were issued from your corporate IP address in downtown Charlotte. Grant didn't build this machine; he just ran it for you."

Charles's face turned to stone. The arrogant, untouchable billionaire suddenly looked very old and very vulnerable. "What do you want?"

"We want a full confession from Grant, we want the names of every politician on your payroll, and we want total asset forfeiture of the Mercer Holdings entity," Agent Jenkins stated, slamming a thick stack of legal documents onto the table. "And most importantly, Claire Mercer gets everything. The estate, the liquid investments, the total dissolution of her prenuptial agreement due to the extreme fraud and physical duress clauses."

When Grant found out his father had abandoned him, he completely broke down in his isolation cell. The slick, arrogant man who used to laugh while I bled on the bathroom floor was replaced by a terrified, sweating mess.

He called his attorney, screaming through the glass partition. "You don't understand! The people I took the money from... they know! They know the feds have the ledgers! If I stay in this jail without protective custody, I’m a dead man!"

"Then you better start talking, Grant," Arthur Pendelton replied dryly. "Because your wife just sold your multi-million-dollar downtown penthouse, and she’s using the proceeds to fund a legal defense network for domestic abuse victims. She’s erasing you, piece by piece."
