Chapter 6 - The Golden EraOne year later.

The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was bathed in the warm, golden light of massive crystal chandeliers.
Over five hundred guests filled the room—international diplomats, Wall Street titans, maritime leaders, and federal officials. The occasion was the annual gala celebrating the merger of Whitmore-Rossi Logistics with the European Maritime Union, creating the largest legitimate transport and supply-chain conglomerate in North America.
At the center of the main terrace overlooking Central Park stood Ryan and Zara.
Ryan was dressed in a sleek, custom black tux, holding a glass of champagne. He looked taller, broader, and infinitely more confident than the quiet manager who had sat at the Grand Marquis dinner two years ago. The weight of self-doubt was completely gone, replaced by the calm, unshakeable poise of a man who ruled an empire on his own terms.
Zara stood beside him, wearing an ethereal gown of midnight-blue silk that trailed behind her with effortless grace. Her dark hair fell in soft curls over her shoulders, and around her neck sat the historic Rossi emerald—a gift from Arthur on the day Ryan officially took over the family council.
"You're thinking about him, aren't you?" Zara asked softly, leaning her shoulder gently against his.
Ryan turned his head, smiling down at her. "Who? Marcus?"
"I heard he was working as a junior compliance consultant for a small logistics firm in Ohio," Zara murmured, a small, playful smirk touching her lips. "Making forty-five thousand a year."
Ryan let out a low, rich laugh, shaking his head. "I don't think about Marcus at all, my love. He was just a small man who thought a big title made him powerful."
He set his champagne glass down on a nearby tray, reaching out to wrap his arms gently around her waist, pulling her close against his chest.
"I think about that night in the elevator," Ryan whispered into her ear, his voice thick with deep, unconditional affection. "I think about how close I came to letting my pride ruin the greatest thing that ever happened to me."
Zara rested her hands against his chest, looking up into his dark, loving eyes.
"You didn't let it ruin us, Ryan," she murmured softly, her fingers tracing the lapel of his jacket. "You stood up. You chose me over his approval, over your promotion, and over eleven years of safe corporate comfort. That was the moment you became the man you were always meant to be."
"I became that man because you believed in me when I was a nobody," Ryan said fiercely, leaning down until his lips were inches from hers. "You wore cheap dresses and lived in a tiny apartment just so I could build my own dream. You are my home, Zara. You are my crown."
"And you are my king," she whispered back.
Their lips met in a deep, passionate kiss that silenced the ambient noise of the ballroom around them. It was a kiss born of shared hardship, unbreakable loyalty, and a love that had stood against the wolves of the corporate world and the shadows of a mafia legacy.
When they finally parted, the crowd around them burst into thunderous applause as the master of ceremonies announced their names from the main stage:
"Ladies and gentlemen! Please raise your glasses for the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Rossi Global Group—Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Zara Rossi!"

Hand in hand, Ryan and Zara stepped out onto the grand balcony overlooking the glittering skyline of New York. The city lights stretched out beneath them like a sea of diamonds, vast, bright, and completely within their grasp.
The boy who had run away from his family name had returned not as a servant, but as a conqueror—guided by the wisdom of an ancient bloodline and anchored by the love of a woman who owned the world, yet chose only him.
