Chapter 2 - The Awakening of the Dragon

The secure command center located beneath a sprawling private estate on the outskirts of Zurich was a masterclass in modern technological intimidation. Wall-to-wall monitors displayed live satellite feeds, financial transactions, and tactical data streams from every major financial hub in the world.
At the head of the long obsidian table sat Marcus Osei.
He didn't look like a global mafia syndicate leader. Dressed in a simple, collarless linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to reveal weathered, scarred forearms and ink-stained skin from decades of pretending to work manual labor, he looked like what Silas Vance had always assumed he was: an aging, harmless mechanic.
Except for his eyes.
His eyes were cold, dark, and utterly devoid of mercy—the eyes of a man who had built an invisible, global empire from the ashes of war and betrayal, only to step back into the shadows to give his daughter a quiet, normal life in America.
A digital console on the desk blinked amber, signaling an encrypted, high-priority incoming call routed directly from the St. Jude Memorial Hospital nurse’s station in Chicago.
Marcus lifted the heavy, encrypted satellite receiver. He didn't say hello. He didn't offer a pleasantry.
"Where is my daughter?"
The nurse on the other end—a terrified young woman who had answered the emergency console after Priya flagged the priority line—stammered nervously. "A-Are you Mr. Marcus Osei? Sir, we have an emergency situation in Room 412. Your daughter, Maya Vance, has suffered acute trauma... we have obstetricians rushing in—"
The phone line seemed to grow ten degrees colder.
"Who is in the room?" Marcus asked, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying register that made the seasoned mercenaries standing around the table instinctively stiffen.
"Mrs. Maya’s... her husband’s associate, an Ms. Odalys Crane, was just escorted out by security after claiming she found Mrs. Vance in distress," the nurse babbled, her voice shaking. "There are signs of physical struggle, sir. The fetal monitor recorded a severe spike in stress levels, and Mrs. Vance is currently unresponsive to standard stabilization."
Marcus slowly lowered the phone from his ear. He didn't yell. He didn't slam his fist against the desk. He simply set the receiver down on the cradle with a soft, deliberate click.
He stood up, towering over the table.
"Kaelen," Marcus said quietly, addressing his chief of tactical operations—a scarred, towering ex-operative who had served with distinction in three black-ops units before swearing absolute loyalty to the Osei syndicate.
"Boss," Kaelen stepped forward instantly.
"Silas Vance has forgotten who feeds his corporation," Marcus said, his voice as hard as diamond. "He and his little mistress have decided to test the boundaries of my patience within my daughter's home territory. I want every single asset Vance Dynamics owns frozen within the hour. I want Kade Capital dismantled down to its last shell company in the Cayman Islands. And I want an extraction team inside St. Jude Memorial Hospital within fifteen minutes to secure Maya and my grandchild."
"And Silas and Odalys?" Kaelen asked, his lips curving into a grim, predatory smile.
"Leave Silas to me," Marcus murmured, walking slowly toward the private elevator that led to the tarmac outside. "I want to introduce my son-in-law to the real family business."
Back in Chicago, the hospital room was a whirlwind of frantic medical activity.
I lay on the gurney, the pain in my abdomen subsiding into a dull, agonizing ache, while Dr. Henderson, the head of obstetrics, hovered anxiously over my bed with an ultrasound wand.
"Her heart rate is stabilizing, but the trauma was severe," Dr. Henderson muttered to Nurse Priya, adjusting the gel on my stomach. "We need to prep her for an emergency C-section if these contractions don't stop within the hour. Where is her husband? Has anyone reached Silas Vance?"
Before Priya could answer, the heavy double doors of my private room burst open with a resounding crash.
Three burly men in identical black tactical suits, their faces partially obscured by reinforced visors and comm-units, strode into the room with absolute, unquestioned authority. They didn't wear hospital badges, and they didn't ask permission.
Dr. Henderson dropped his clipboard. "Hey! You can't just barge in here! This is a sterile medical ward—"
The lead operative ignored the doctor entirely. He walked straight to the side of my bed, pressed a small encrypted radio transmitter to his collar, and spoke in a crisp, low voice.
"Package secured. Vitals are stable, but immediate extraction is required. Awaiting transport confirmation."
A familiar, gravelly voice crackled through the operative's earpiece, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.
“Bring my daughter home.”
It was my father.
May you like
And as the tactical team lifted my gurney with astonishing, gentle precision, wheeling me past the stunned hospital staff toward a private elevator that didn't appear on any public architectural blueprint of the building, I realized the truth.
Silas thought he had trapped me in a corner. He had no idea he had just unlocked a cage containing something far more dangerous than he could ever imagine.
