Chapter 6 - A New Horizon

One year later, the spring air in the Santa Monica hills carried the fresh, clean scent of eucalyptus and ocean salt.
I stood on the expansive stone patio of a sunlit, modern coastal home that overlooked the vast, glittering expanse of the Pacific Ocean. There were no cold marble floors, no heavy iron gates, and no toxic socialites hiding behind polite smiles. Just floor-to-ceiling glass, warm wooden decks, and the soothing, rhythmic crash of the waves below.
My father’s classic vintage Shelby Cobra sat parked in the driveway—a reminder of where I came from and the grease under the fingernails that built an empire far more enduring than anything Nathaniel Cross could have ever dreamed of.
The sliding glass door behind me opened softly.
My father stepped out onto the patio, holding two steaming mugs of coffee and handing one to me with a warm, proud smile.
“The morning reports from the foundation just came in, Izzy,” he said, leaning against the railing beside me. “We’ve successfully funded safe housing and legal representation for over five hundred women escaping abusive relationships this year alone.”
I took a sip of the coffee, looking out at the endless horizon where the blue sky met the sparkling sea.
“Good,” I said softly, a genuine, radiant smile touching my lips. “We’re just getting started.”

The past was buried deep behind us—a painful, bloody chapter of a life I had completely rewritten on my own terms. I wasn't the quiet, obedient wife anymore. I wasn't a victim hiding in a Bel Air mansion.
I was the architect of my own destiny, standing tall in the sunlight, knowing that no one would ever break me again.
