Chapter 4 - The Boardroom ExecutionThree weeks later, the glass-walled executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of Reed Global Enterprises in Manhattan hummed with a quiet, tense energy.

The room was packed to maximum capacity. Senior vice presidents, institutional investors, and members of the board of directors sat around the polished mahogany table in dead silence. Nobody dared to whisper. Nobody dared to look at their phones.

At the head of the table sat Claire Reed.

She wore a sharply tailored charcoal-gray pantsuit that commanded the room before she even spoke a word. Her dark hair was pulled back into an immaculate French twist, and the faint scar on her wrist from Vanessa’s stiletto was hidden neatly beneath the cuff of her silk blouse.

The empty chair to her right—the chair Daniel had occupied for five years as CEO—had been removed entirely.

“Good morning, everyone,” Claire said, her voice clear, calm, and carrying an absolute authority that made veteran executives sit up a little straighter.

Marcus Reed stood beside her, clicking through a digital presentation on the massive projection screen.

“As you can see from the forensic audits distributed before this meeting,” Marcus began, his voice professional and detached, “all corporate assets, subsidiary accounts, and personal holdings previously mismanaged by former CEO Daniel Reed have been successfully recovered and consolidated under the exclusive control of the Claire Vance-Reed Trust.”

A murmur of nervous agreement rippled through the boardroom.

One of the senior vice presidents, Arthur Pendelton—who had quietly helped Daniel cover up several irregular transactions—raised a trembling hand.

“Mrs. Reed… if I may,” Arthur stammered, clearing his throat. “While the legal restructuring is impressive, what happens to Daniel’s equity stake? Does it revert to the corporate reserve, or will there be a contested probate hearing?”

Claire rested her palms flat on the mahogany table, leaning forward slightly. Her hazel eyes locked onto Arthur with a look so piercing it made the older man shrink back in his chair.

“There is no probate hearing, Arthur,” Claire said smoothly. “Daniel pled guilty to federal wire fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy charges two days ago in exchange for a recommended twenty-five-year sentence without parole. As part of his plea agreement, every single share of equity he owned in this company has been forfeited to the trust as restitution.”

Arthur swallowed hard. “And… and Vanessa?”

“Vanessa is currently awaiting trial in a federal correctional facility in upstate New York, facing identical charges, plus aggravated assault,” Claire replied without blinking. “Her legal team tried to claim mental duress. The judge threw the motion out in under five minutes.”

Claire stood up, smoothing the front of her jacket.

“Effective immediately,” Claire announced, her voice echoing off the glass walls, “Reed Global Enterprises is officially being rebranded as Vance & Associates Holdings. We are liquidating our speculative real estate holdings and redirecting fifty percent of our annual profits into a newly established victim advocacy and financial protection foundation.”

She looked around the room, meeting the gaze of every single executive.

“If anyone in this room believes they can operate a shadow portfolio, forge a signature, or treat this corporation as a personal playground, I invite you to pack your belongings and leave through those double doors right now. Because my legal team and I will find you, audit you, and dismantle everything you own before you even realize what hit you.”

Silence hung heavy in the room. Not a single person objected. Not a single person moved.

Claire turned gracefully on her heel and walked out of the boardroom, leaving behind an empire that finally belonged to its true owner.
