Chapter 5 - The Reckoning in CourtThe courtroom of Judge Harrison was packed to the gills. Media outlets, financial journalists, and curious onlookers crammed into the mahogany-paneled gallery to witness what the local press had dubbed The Corporate Execution of Bel Air.

Clara sat at the plaintiff’s table, flanked by Arthur Vance and a team of junior associates carrying stacks of pristine financial audits. She wore a sharp, structured ivory blazer, her posture upright, her expression serene and untouchable.

Across the aisle sat Greg. Gone was the smug, arrogant husband who had watched his sister slap his wife in the face. He looked ten years older, his designer suit rumpled, his hair uncombed, flanked by a nervous public defender who looked like he wanted to vanish through the floorboards.

“Mr. Vance,” Judge Harrison’s voice boomed across the courtroom, cold and uncompromising. “I have reviewed the forensic audit submitted by plaintiff’s counsel. It details four years of systematic embezzlement, fraudulent conveyance of real estate assets, and the misappropriation of over two million dollars in marital and pre-marital capital to fund an extramarital residence.”

Greg half-rose from his chair, his voice cracking. “Your Honor, please! It was a business investment! My wife travels constantly—she abandoned the emotional duties of the marriage!”

“Sit down, Mr. Vance,” Judge Harrison snapped, slamming his gavel down with a sharp crack that rattled the microphones. “Do not insult this court with amateur excuses. You systematically stripped your wife’s hard-earned assets while she was flying across the globe funding your lavish lifestyle and your mistress's real estate portfolio.”

The judge adjusted his glasses, looking down at the final judgment papers resting on his desk.

“Therefore, the court orders the following: First, the quitclaim deed transferring ownership of the Bel Air estate is hereby declared null, void, and procured by fraud. Full, unencumbered title of the property is immediately restored to Beatrice Clara Vance. Second, the townhouse at 442 Crestview Lane is seized and transferred directly to the plaintiff as partial restitution for embezzled funds. Third, all remaining corporate accounts held under Greg’s LLC are frozen, seized, and liquidated to cover legal fees and spousal damages. Fourth, sole, unconditional physical and legal custody of the minor children, Leo and Maya, is awarded to Clara Vance, with supervised visitation rights granted to the defendant only at the discretion of the plaintiff.”

Bang.

The gavel struck the wood with absolute finality.

Greg slumped forward, burying his face in his hands as a soft sob escaped his lips. His mother and sister, sitting in the back row of the gallery, let out a collective gasp of horror before bursting into hysterical, tearful protests that were immediately silenced by court bailiffs escorting them out of the room.

Clara didn't flinch. She didn't gloat. She simply closed her leather folder, picked up her pen, and turned to Arthur with a quiet, polite nod of gratitude.

The nightmare was over. The debt had been paid in full.
