Part 3: The Hidden Truth

The next morning, I played the part of the oblivious, supportive husband perfectly. I sat at the breakfast table, sipping coffee, while Vivian casually scrolled through her tablet, reviewing catering menus for an upcoming hospital fundraiser.
"Julian, dear," she said smoothly, not looking up from her screen. "We’ll need to interview a new agency for a nanny by Monday. I simply cannot have the boys unsupervised for too long, especially after the trauma of yesterday. It's truly a shame about Maya. I trusted her."
"Of course," I replied, my voice steady, though my grip on my coffee mug tightened until my knuckles turned white. "I'll have my assistant handle the vetting process. We can't be too careful."
"Exactly," she smiled, blowing me a superficial kiss as she stood up to get ready for her brunch appointment. "You always know how to handle things, darling."
The moment her sports car cleared the security gates of the estate, I went to work. I didn't go to my corporate office. Instead, I drove straight to the downtown legal district, pulling up outside the offices of Vance & Sterling Asset Protection—the most formidable investigative legal firm in the state. Richard Sterling, a ruthless former federal prosecutor, had been my personal attorney for a decade.
Inside his private office, I laid out everything: Ethan's confession, the corrupted security logs, and the strange suddenness of the accusation.
Richard leaned back in his leather chair, his sharp eyes narrowing as he reviewed the corrupted file logs I brought him on a flash drive. "Julian, this isn't a simple case of a jealous or vindictive wife framing a staff member. To wipe an enterprise-grade security server requires specialized administrative access. Who handles your home network?"
"An outside contractor," I said, a realization hitting me. "A tech firm recommended by Vivian's brother, Bradley Miller."
"The plot thickens," Richard murmured, tapping his pen against the desk. "But here’s the real question: What did Maya see? A woman like Vivian doesn't risk a felony frame-job just because she dislikes a nanny. She did this to completely destroy Maya's credibility in case she tried to talk."
"I need you to get into Maya's defense," I commanded. "Represent her quietly. Don't let the Miller family lawyers know I'm funding it. And find out what she knows."
It took Richard less than twenty-four hours to secure an emergency bail hearing and sit down with Maya in a private consultation room at the county jail. By that evening, he called me from an encrypted line.
"Julian, you need to sit down," Richard's voice was grim. "Maya didn't steal anything. But she did find something inside Vivian's private dressing room last week while she was looking for Caleb’s misplaced inhaler."
"What did she find, Richard?"
"A hidden lockbox containing financial ledgers and medical power-of-attorney templates," Richard explained. "They weren't for your medical network, Julian. They were forged documents regarding your personal assets and mental competency evaluations. Vivian has been quietly paying off a corrupt physician within your own hospital network to draft a medical conservatorship profile on you."
My breath hitched. The pieces of the puzzle slammed together with a terrifying, deafening crash. Vivian wasn't just trying to get rid of Maya. She was preparing to execute a legal coup. She was planning to have me declared medically incompetent due to a fabricated psychological breakdown, seizing control of my entire network of medical facilities, my estate, and full custody of Ethan and Caleb.

Maya had stumbled upon the paperwork, and Vivian realized her entire multi-million dollar conspiracy was at risk. Framing Maya for grand larceny was the perfect way to ensure that if the young nanny ever tried to expose the lockbox, the police and the courts would dismiss it as the desperate lies of a bitter, caught thief.
"She’s playing for keeps, Julian," Richard warned. "If she realizes you know, she’ll accelerate the timeline. You are in extreme danger."
