Chapter 6 - The Legacy

December 14, 2026.

The grand ballroom of the historic Palacio de Gobierno in central Monterrey was bathed in the soft glow of thousands of white fairy lights and crystal chandeliers.

It was Lucía and Renata’s ninth birthday, and the official gala celebrating the launch of the Valeria Castañeda Architectural Foundation—a multi-million-dollar philanthropic initiative funded by Villaseñor Global to provide scholarships and project grants to young female architects across Latin America.

Five hundred of Mexico's elite sat at round tables draped in white linen.

At the head table sat Lucía and Renata, wearing matching emerald-green velvet dresses, giggling as they ate chocolate cake. Beside them, Elena chatted happily with a prominent art curator from Mexico City.

Santiago stood at the podium at the front of the ballroom, dressed in a sharp black tuxedo.

The room fell silent as he adjusted the microphone.

"Nine years ago," Santiago began, his voice deep, resonant, and steady, "I thought I understood what success meant. I thought it was measured in square meters, balance sheets, and corporate acquisitions."

He turned his head to look at Valeria, who sat at the center table wearing an exquisite off-the-shoulder gold gown, her silver-dark curls framed by simple diamond earrings—the same green eyes shining back at him with pure love.

"I was wrong," Santiago continued, his eyes misting with emotion. "Real strength is not built with concrete or steel. It is built by the courage of a mother who sacrifices everything to protect her children. It is built by forgiveness, resilience, and the relentless belief that love will always find its way home."

Santiago raised his champagne glass toward the room.

"Tonight, I invite you all to toast to my incredible wife, Valeria, and to our brilliant daughters, Lucía and Renata. The true architects of my life."

The ballroom erupted in thunderous, standing applause.

Santiago stepped down from the stage, walking directly toward Valeria. He held out his hand, and she took it, letting him lift her from her seat and pull her into his arms amidst the cheering crowd.

Lucía and Renata ran over, wrapping their arms around their parents' legs.

Santiago leaned down, kissing Valeria deeply, his hand resting over hers as their wedding rings caught the warm light of the chandeliers.

"I love you, Valeria," Santiago whispered against her lips. "Yesterday, today, and for every tomorrow."

Valeria smiled, looking at her daughters, at her mother, and into the green eyes of the man who had filled her world with light.

"We're home, Santiago," she whispered back. "We're finally home."
