Chapter 4 - The House Manager’s Ledger

The confrontation with Leo Romano was orchestrated with military precision. Instead of flying into a rage, Dominic played the invalid, keeping me at his bedside while summoning Leo under the pretext of reviewing estate expenditures. When Leo entered the bedroom carrying a silver tray with fresh coffee and medical supplies, his expression was the picture of devoted loyalty. He smiled smoothly, offering polite pleasantries about my continued presence, before setting the tray down. That was when Dominic threw back the blankets, stood up with a low groan, and jammed a heavy service pistol directly under Leo’s chin. The coffee tray clattered to the Persian rug, shattering the porcelain cups. Leo went pale, his silver-tempered composure cracking instantly, though he tried to maintain a veneer of innocence. "Mr. Rossi... what is the meaning of this?" Leo stammered. I stood back near the bookshelf, holding the tablet open to the exact timestamp of the security override. Dominic didn't shout; his voice was terrifyingly quiet. "You disabled the cameras, Leo. You let the hit squad into the study, and you hired a butcher to sew me up with contaminated thread." Trapped by undeniable digital proof, Leo’s eyes flicked toward me with pure venom, realizing that his grand betrayal had been undone by a temporary nurse who refused to follow the rules.
