Chapter 6 - The Queen's Throne

Six months later.
The Romano estate was surrounded by blooming white roses, their sweet scent filling the warm summer air. The scars of the war with the Moretti family had mostly healed. Frank Moretti, broken by the death of his son and stripped of his allies by the High Council, had been forced into permanent exile in Sicily. The Romano family now held absolute control over the entire Tri-State region.
In the master suite, Lia stood before a full-length mirror.
She wore a custom-tailored white silk gown that draped effortlessly over her frame. Around her neck sat the same emerald necklace from her wedding night, but it no longer felt like a shackle. It felt like a crown.
Over the past half-year, Lia had transformed. She had not merely survived Dante's world—she had conquered it. She managed the family's legitimate charities, controlled the estate's finances, and sat beside Dante at every Council meeting. The capos no longer saw her as a civilian hostage; they called her La Regina—The Queen.
A knock sounded at the door, and Mrs. Gable stepped inside, carrying a small leather ledger.
"Mrs. Romano," Mrs. Gable said respectfully. "The financial reports for the diner foundation are complete. We have officially purchased Rosie's Diner and given full ownership to your friend, Sarah."
Lia smiled softly. "Thank you, Mrs. Gable. And Carol?"
"Your aunt tried to re-enter New York yesterday," Mrs. Gable reported dryly. "Mr. Julian had her escorted back to the airport. She was informed that if she ever sets foot in the state again, she will be handled... permanently."
"Good," Lia said quietly. She felt no malice toward Carol anymore—only a cold, clean boundary. Carol was part of a weak past that could no longer hurt her.
The bedroom door opened, and Dante walked in.
He was dressed in a sleek black tuxedo, looking impeccably handsome. His dark eyes immediately found Lia in the mirror, and his expression softened into something profound and intensely tender—a look reserved exclusively for her.
"You look breathtaking," Dante said, walking up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin gently on her shoulder.
Lia leaned back into his broad chest, placing her hands over his. "Are the guests downstairs?"
"The entire Council is waiting," Dante murmured, kissing the warm skin of her neck. "Tonight, we announce the expansion into the European shipping routes. But honestly... I don't give a damn about the Council."
Lia turned around in his arms, her dark eyes sparkling with playful warmth. "Oh? What do you care about, Mr. Romano?"
Dante looked down at her, his thumbs tracing the line of her cheekbones. The cold, ruthless mob boss who had terrified the city was completely absent; in his place was a man entirely devoted to the woman in his arms.
"I care about the girl who woke up in my bed six months ago," Dante whispered softly, his voice thick with emotion. "The girl who was terrified, but refused to bow. The girl who saved my life and taught me that power means nothing if you have no one to share it with."
Lia felt a swell of warmth fill her heart. Six months ago, she had believed her life was over—that she had been sold into a nightmare. But in the darkness of Dante's world, she had found her own strength, her own power, and a love that was fierce, unyielding, and absolute.
"I didn't choose how we started, Dante," Lia said, reaching up to gently outline the pale scar on his jaw. "But I am choosing this. I am choosing you."
Dante's eyes flared with intense light. He pulled her flush against his body, pressing his lips to hers in a slow, deep kiss that tasted of victory, promise, and forever.
"You are my wife, Lia," Dante swore against her lips, his voice an absolute promise. "My equal. My queen. Forever."
May you like
"Forever," Lia agreed, holding him tight.
Arm in arm, Dante and Lia Romano walked out of the suite, down the grand marble staircase, and into the roaring applause of the elite world waiting below—hand in hand, side by side, ruling an empire they had built together out of blood, silk, and love.
