Chapter 6 - A New Chapter


The November rain had finally stopped, replaced by a brilliant autumn afternoon that painted the New York hills in gold and amber.
The iron gates of the Navarro estate were wide open. Not because we were expecting an attack, but because we finally had nothing to hide from.
I stood on the front steps, holding a mug of coffee, watching the leaves drift across the manicured lawn. Jonah rolled out beside me, parking his chair right next to my hip. He didn't wear a heavy wool coat or hide behind dark glasses; he looked like a man who had reclaimed his kingdom.
“So,” Jonah murmured, turning his head to look at me. “Are you going to stay, Stella? Or are you going to pack your bags and find another chaotic life to fix?”
I looked down at him, a slow smile spreading across my face. I bumped my shoulder gently against his.

“Fixing your life took three weeks, Navarro,” I said, taking a sip of my coffee. “Fixing you is going to take a lifetime. I think I’ll stick around.”
Jonah laughed—a deep, resonant sound that chased away every lingering ghost of the past. He reached out, taking my hand in his, and for the first time since I arrived at the estate, everything felt exactly where it was supposed to be.
