Chapter 4 - The Gala at the Plaza

The climax of our investigation coincided with the annual New York Metropolitan Heritage Gala at the Plaza Hotel, a glittering event where high-society elites, politicians, and syndicate bosses mingled under massive crystal chandeliers. Dressed in an emerald silk gown that Rhett had quietly had delivered to my apartment, I accompanied him into the grand ballroom as his official administrative consultant. Throughout the evening, the traitorous capo—Vince Moretti—worked the room, confident that his plan to depose Rhett during the midnight board meeting was foolproof. They had planted falsified financial audits pointing the finger directly at my mother and me as reckless, unauthorized infiltrators who had compromised the estate’s security. But they didn't know that I had spent the preceding forty-eight hours locking down their offshore accounts and redirecting their communication channels. When Moretti stood up to present his motion of no confidence against Rhett, stepping to the podium with a predatory smile, I didn't wait for him to finish; I stepped up beside him, opened the ballroom’s master projection screens, and broadcasted every wire transfer, intercepted text message, and confession recording across the wall.
