Chapter 6 - The Lullaby of TomorrowOne year later.

The summer sun shone bright and warm over the green hills of Lake Forest, Illinois.
A majestic stone estate sat amidst blooming gardens, looking out over the sparkling blue waters of Lake Michigan. In the spacious backyard, a white wooden gazebo stood surrounded by rose bushes, where soft wind chimes hummed in the summer breeze.
On the manicured lawn, nineteen-month-old Noah was running with joyous, energetic strides. His cheeks were rosy, his breathing clear and strong, completely free of oxygen tubes or medical monitors.
He was chasing a golden retriever puppy, letting out loud, bell-like giggles that echoed across the lawn.
Standing by the edge of the patio, wearing a simple yellow summer dress, was Celeste. She held a cold glass of lemonade, her face radiant with health, peace, and absolute happiness.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind.
Gabriel Vance leaned down, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder, his pale gray eyes—now soft, warm, and filled with deep serenity—watching Noah play on the grass.
He wore an open-collared white linen shirt and trousers, looking completely transformed from the cold mobster who had sat in the dark booth of the Blue Lantern.
Over the past year, Gabriel had systematically dismantled his syndicate’s illegal operations, transitioning his vast wealth into legitimate international shipping, philanthropy, and medical research foundations for pediatric lung disease.
“He’s getting fast,” Gabriel murmured softly into Celeste’s ear, kissing her temple. “Doctor says his lungs are stronger than a marathon runner’s.”
Celeste leaned back against Gabriel’s chest, covering his hands with hers, feeling the steady, strong heartbeat beneath his shirt.
“He gets his strength from his father,” Celeste smiled softly, turning her head to press a warm kiss against his jawline.
Gabriel smiled—a genuine, beautiful smile that reached all the way to his eyes.
On her finger, a simple, stunning diamond ring caught the golden afternoon light—a promise they had sealed three months ago in a small chapel near the lake.
Suddenly, Noah came tumbling across the grass, holding a bright yellow dandelion in his chubby fist. He ran up to the patio, reaching his arms up toward Gabriel.
“Daddy! Daddy! Look!” Noah cheered in his high, clear voice.
Gabriel let go of Celeste’s waist and dropped to his knees, lifting Noah effortlessly into his arms, tossing the little boy into the air until Noah squealed with delight before cuddling tight against Gabriel’s neck.
“It’s a beautiful flower, buddy,” Gabriel laughed warmly, kissing Noah’s soft cheek. “Let's give it to Mommy.”
Noah extended his tiny hand, handing the dandelion to Celeste. “For Mommy!”
Celeste took the flower, tears of overwhelming joy shining in her eyes.
She looked at her healthy, thriving son. She looked at the man who had bought a dirty dive bar just to give her a chance to save her child—the man who had given up an underground empire just to give them a safe, beautiful home.
The dark nights were gone. The broken songs were over.
Celeste reached out, holding Gabriel’s face in her hand, leaning in to press her lips against his in a deep, loving kiss under the golden summer sun.

And there, in the quiet sanctuary of the life they had built together, the only song left to sing was the sweet, beautiful melody of tomorrow.
The End.
