Chapter 6 - The Kingdom We BuiltSix months later, the rain was falling again over the city, washing the asphalt clean beneath the neon lights.

Inside the sprawling penthouse overlooking the Vance shipping harbor, the atmosphere was warm, quiet, and filled with the scent of fresh white orchids.

Petals & Grace hadn't closed down; instead, under a massive corporate restructuring funded by anonymous venture capital (which Harper knew damn well came from Damian), it had expanded into the city’s premier floral design studio, supplying arrangements for every major high-society gala, wedding, and corporate summit on the eastern seaboard.

Harper sat curled up on the oversized leather sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window, a warm mug of tea in her hands, watching the rain streak down the glass.

Footsteps echoed softly across the hardwood floor. Strong, familiar arms wrapped around her from behind, pulling her back against a broad, solid chest. Damian rested his chin on her shoulder, his lips brushing softly against her temple.

“What are you thinking about?” he murmured, his voice rich and deep in the quiet penthouse.

Harper smiled, leaning back into his embrace, her left hand resting against his chest, the heavy emerald ring catching the warm glow of the room lights.

“I was thinking about that night in the alley,” Harper said softly. “When I kissed a bleeding stranger because I thought he was in trouble.”

Damian chuckled, a deep, resonant sound that vibrated against her back. He turned her slightly in his arms, looking down into her eyes with a fierce, unwavering devotion.

“Best mistake you ever made,” Damian said quietly.

“Is it?” Harper raised an eyebrow playfully. “I’m married to the city's most feared mafia king. My life is constantly threatened by rival syndicates, and my flower shop is currently guarded by six armed mercenaries.”

Damian’s lips curved into a slow, dangerous, and utterly devoted smile.

“Yes,” Damian whispered, leaning down to press his lips gently against hers. “Because you didn't just save a stranger that night, Harper. You saved me.”

Outside, the rain fell over the sprawling city, washing away the shadows. But inside their fortress, wrapped in an empire built on blood and loyalty, they were untouchable.
