Chapter 3 - The ConfrontationTen minutes later, the study doors opened again.

Valentina stepped into the room flanked by two armed guards. Her ivory silk robe was pristine, her dark hair immaculate, but the icy mask she wore was beginning to crack at the edges.
She looked at Paolo lying bruised on the floor, then at the open manila envelope resting on Rocco’s desk.
She knew.
"Rocco," Valentina said, her voice dropping all pretense of innocence, becoming hard and sharp like flint. "You think you've caught me in some grand treason. But you don't understand the realities of the business you run."
Rocco sat behind his desk, holding his sleeping son against his chest. The baby’s head rested over Rocco’s heart, warm and fragile.
"Explain it to me then, Valentina," Rocco said coldly. "Explain why my son spent eighteen months in a dark basement while you slept in silk sheets."
Valentina let out a dry, bitter laugh. She crossed her arms, stepping over Paolo without even looking down at him.
"Because you were going to ruin everything, Rocco!" she spat out, her eyes blazing with long-suppressed hatred. "Two years ago, my father’s family—the Cortese family—was on the brink of bankruptcy. You were expanding your territory, taking over the docks, wiping out my bloodline's legacy! I married you to save my family, not to watch you turn me into a quiet domestic wife!"
"So you made a deal with your uncle Cortese," Rocco deduced, his voice steady as steel.
"Yes!" Valentina declared openly. "Dr. Harrison was paid two million dollars to fake the baby’s death at birth! If you had a living male heir, your entire estate, your voting shares, and your shipping routes would automatically be locked into an unalterable family trust that I could never touch!"
She took a step closer to the desk, pointing a manicured finger at the child in Rocco’s arms.
"Without an heir, the Moretti charter dictated that if anything happened to you, forty percent of the corporate shares would revert to me as your widow!" Valentina snarled. "The child was my leverage! As long as he was alive in that cottage, I could force Harrison to sign whatever medical affidavits I needed! And once the Cortese syndicate seized the shipping routes through Val-Cort Logistics, I was going to send the boy to an orphanage in Europe!"
"You kept him starving," Rocco said, his voice dangerously low. "You kept a baby in a box so you could steal my docks."
"He was an obstacle!" Valentina screamed, her composure entirely vanishing into pure, unadulterated venom. "He was a useless piece of flesh that stood between me and five hundred million dollars!"
The silence that followed her confession was suffocating.
Elena Bellini pulled Sophia behind her skirt, horrified. Marco gripped his sidearm, waiting for Rocco’s word to execute the woman where she stood.
Rocco didn't reach for his gun. He simply looked at Valentina with a cold, profound pity that seemed to cut her deeper than a bullet ever could.
"You thought you were clever, Valentina," Rocco said quietly. "You thought power was about money and corporate shares."
He stood up carefully, cradling his son in one arm.
"You forgot what built the Moretti name," Rocco continued, stepping out from behind the desk. "It wasn't paper. It wasn't legal trusts. It was loyalty to blood."
At that moment, the heavy study doors swung open once more.
Thomas Russo walked into the room, followed by four guards dragging a pale, sweating man in a rumpled suit.
Dr. Harrison.
The doctor fell to his knees beside Paolo, sobbing uncontrollably. "Mr. Moretti! Please! She forced me! She threatened my family! I have all the original birth records! I have the DNA logs! I can testify against her!"
"It's already over, Julian," Thomas said calmly, holding up a black tablet. "Federal agents and state prosecutors are currently raiding the Cortese estate in Geneva. Every bank account associated with Val-Cort Logistics has been seized under RICO statutes."
Valentina’s face drained of every drop of color. She stumbled back until her spine hit the mahogany bookshelf.
"No..." she whispered, her eyes wide with absolute horror. "No, my uncle... my family..."
"Your family is finished, Valentina," Rocco said, standing before her like an absolute judge. "You will spend the rest of your life in a federal penitentiary for attempted murder, child abuse, wire fraud, and treason."
He turned to Marco.
"Hand her over to the federal authorities waiting at the gate. Make sure she is put in high-security isolation."

"No! Rocco, please!" Valentina shrieked as Marco and another guard grabbed her arms, dragging her toward the door. "I am your wife! You can't do this to me! Rocco!"
Her screams echoed down the long marble hallway until the heavy oak doors clicked shut, plunging the study back into quiet.
