Chapter 6 - A New BeginningFive months later, the spring sun was warm and bright as it washed over the hardwood floors of my Back Bay townhouse.

The nursery was painted in soft sage green and warm cream, filled with handmade wooden toys, shelves of classic children’s books, and a crib that had been assembled with patience and care.

I stood near the nursery window, resting one hand gently against my rounded, full-term belly while holding a warm cup of herbal tea in the other.

My phone buzzed on the rocking chair beside me.

It was an email from Daniel.

“Maya, the final asset liquidation of FunnelTech has been completed. The remaining balance of the diverted funds has been fully recovered and deposited into your personal trust. Furthermore, Julian’s legal counsel has finalized the formal relinquishment of all parental rights, clearing the path for sole custody registration upon birth.”

I smiled, locking the screen and slipping the phone into my pocket.

For years, I had believed that love meant enduring disrespect, that compromise meant sacrificing my own financial and emotional security to prop up a man whose ego was too fragile to stand on his own. I had spent so much time trying to shrink myself to fit into a world built by men who only valued women as accessories or bank accounts.

Standing here now—strong, financially secure, fiercely independent, and weeks away from holding my baby in my arms—I finally understood the truth.
