Chapter 5 - The Fall of the House of ValeBy Monday morning, the liquidation auction of Vale Urban Holdings was the biggest financial event in New York history.

The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed to capacity. Hundreds of real estate tycoons, private equity vultures, hedge fund managers, and international investors sat shoulder-to-shoulder under the glittering crystal chandeliers, all vying for a piece of the crumbling empire that Harrison Vale had spent decades building.
At the front of the room, standing beside the auctioneer's podium, were Daniel and Naomi Park. They didn't look like predators circling a carcass; they looked like monarchs surveying their kingdom. Naomi wore a sharp white Chanel dress, her posture regal and unyielding. Daniel stood beside her in a bespoke navy suit, his hand resting casually in his pocket.
In the front row, pale, gaunt, and wearing a rumpled grey suit with dark circles under his eyes, sat Harrison Vale. Released on a temporary, heavily monitored signature bond while awaiting federal trial for wire fraud, bribery, and corporate asset stripping, Harrison had been forced by his lawyers to attend the proceedings.
As the auctioneer’s gavel struck the mahogany block, selling Vale’s flagship Midtown office tower to a Blackstone Meridian subsidiary for a fraction of its peak valuation, Harrison let out a low, strangled sound of pure despair.
He staggered to his feet, his chair screeching loudly against the parquet flooring.
"You ruined me!" Harrison screamed, pointing a shaking finger directly at Daniel and Naomi. "You rigged the banks! You manipulated the courts! You destroyed everything I built!"
The entire ballroom went dead silent. Dozens of media cameras swung instantly toward him, flashing blindingly in his face.
Security guards moved in instantly, grabbing Harrison by the shoulders, but he thrashed violently, his face purple with rage and humiliation.
"You think you won!" Harrison shrieked as he was dragged backward toward the double doors. "You think because you have money and a mafia family backing you up that you're untouchable! You're monsters! Both of you!"
The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind him, cutting off his frantic screams.
The silence in the ballroom lingered for three seconds. Then, Stepfan Vance—representing Vanguard Global Bank—cleared his throat and nodded respectfully toward Daniel and Naomi. The auctioneer cleared his voice, adjusted his tie, and resumed the bidding as if nothing had happened.
Naomi didn't even flinch. She turned her head slightly, looking up at her husband with a calm, serene smile.
"Well," Naomi said quietly. "That was louder than expected."

"Harrison was never known for his indoor voice," Daniel replied smoothly, pulling her a fraction closer as the next asset lot was announced. "Shall we go celebrate? I know a quiet Italian place in Little Italy that doesn't serve seafood near pools."
Naomi laughed, a bright, musical sound that cut through the sterile tension of the room. "Only if we walk there. I want to test out my new shoes."
