PART 1 — THE THING IN MATTHEW'S THROAT

The emergency alarm echoed through Santa Regina Hospital.
Doctors rushed into Matthew Arriaga's room.
Machines beeped wildly.
The ten-year-old heir gasped for air, his face turning darker with every passing second.
Outside the glass wall, Lupita stood frozen.
She knew what she had seen.
Something had moved inside his throat.
Something alive.
But nobody listened.
Not the nurses.
Not the specialists.
And certainly not Don Víctor Arriaga.
The billionaire stepped toward Teresa and her daughter.
His face burned with anger.
"If your daughter says another word, both of you leave this hospital today."
Teresa immediately apologized.
But Lupita refused to lower her eyes.
"Something is inside him."
The adults laughed again.
Even Matthew's aunt, Verónica, smirked.
"A cleaning girl's daughter diagnosing millionaires."
More laughter followed.
Then suddenly—
A scream came from inside the room.
Doctors surrounded the bed.
Matthew began choking violently.
His body convulsed.
Blood appeared at the corner of his mouth.
For the first time, fear spread across the faces of the specialists.
Because none of their tests explained what was happening.

And none of them had an answer.
Except perhaps the little girl no one wanted to hear.
