Chapter 5 - The Unmasking at the Conclave

The Grand Ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel was a palace of gold, crystal, and glittering champagne.

Four hundred of the country’s most powerful people—politicians, billionaires, foreign dignitaries, and media moguls—gathered under the massive chandeliers.

At the center of the room stood Richard Vance.

He was sixty years old, impeccably tailored in a white tuxedo, his silver hair neatly styled, a smug, triumphant smile on his face. In his hand, he held a crystal glass of champagne.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Richard’s voice echoed through the ballroom’s sound system as he stood on the raised stage. "Tonight is a solemn, yet historic night for Vance International. Ten years ago, my beloved brother Arthur and his family were taken from us in a tragic accident."

He dabbed at his eye with a silk handkerchief, putting on a masterful performance of grief.

"Tonight, as the legal guardian, I take full responsibility for the Vance legacy. The courts have officially finalized the estate transfer. Vance International will merge into a new era of prosperity!"

The crowd broke into applause. Corporate board members clapped, preparing to sign the final legal documents displayed on the golden podium.

Suddenly, the massive double doors of the ballroom slammed open!

BOOM!

The sound echoed through the high ceilings like thunder.

The music stopped. The applause died. Four armed security guards rushed toward the entrance, but they stopped dead in their tracks as thirty men in dark suits, led by Mateo, flooded into the room, securing every exit.

Then, two figures walked through the doorway.

Dante Serrano walked in first, dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, his presence casting a heavy, terrifying shadow over the room.

And beside him, her arm looped gracefully through his, was Genevieve Vance.

The room gasped.

She was breathtaking. She wore an exquisite floor-length emerald silk gown that hugged her slender frame. Her dark hair was styled into a sleek, elegant bob that brushed her collarbone—exposing the starburst birthmark and the surgical scar for the entire room to see. Her skin radiated health and beauty, her emerald eyes held high with regal, unbroken authority.

Richard Vance dropped his champagne glass. The crystal shattered across the golden stage, sparkling wine soaking his white trousers.

"No..." Richard whimpered, his face turning the color of ash. "No... it's impossible..."

"Good evening, Uncle," Genevieve’s clear, melodious voice rang through the silent ballroom, carried perfectly by the room’s acoustic design.

She detached her arm from Dante’s, taking three deliberate, elegant steps forward. Every camera in the room turned toward her, flashes exploding like lightning strikes!

"Genevieve Vance?" a senior board member gasped, stepping forward. "My God... look at her face! Look at her collarbone! It’s Arthur’s daughter!"

"She's an imposter!" Richard screamed into the microphone, his voice cracking with wild, pathetic panic! "Guards! Shoot her! She's a street fraud hired by the Serrano mob to steal my company!"

Not a single guard moved. Dante’s men stood behind them with hands on their holsters, their silent presence ensuring no one intervened.

Genevieve pulled a small, encrypted flash drive from her silk purse, holding it up for the media cameras.

"On this drive," Genevieve declared, her voice cold and unyielding, "are the forensic DNA matches verified three hours ago by the Chief Medical Examiner of New York. Along with the Swiss bank records detailing forty million dollars transferred from Vance International to the mercenaries who attacked my yacht ten years ago!"

The crowd erupted into wild chaos! Board members shouted in outrage, reporters rushed the stage with cameras, and police sirens began to wail in the street outside the hotel!

Richard’s eyes went wild. Realizing his empire, his fortune, and his life were crumbling in a single second, he reached into his tuxedo coat, pulling a silver snub-nosed revolver from his pocket!

"You should have died in the water!" Richard shrieked, pointing the gun straight at Genevieve’s head!

Before Richard could pull the trigger, Dante moved.

Dante crossed the twenty-foot gap in the flash of an eye. He grabbed Richard’s wrist, twisting it upward with crushing force!

CRACK!

Richard screamed in agony as his wrist snapped. The gun fell to the floor. Dante caught Richard by the collar of his white tuxedo, driving his heavy knee straight into Richard’s ribs, slamming the billionaire face-first onto the golden stage!

Dante planted his polished leather boot firmly on the back of Richard’s neck, pinning him to the floor like an insect.

The heavy oak doors of the ballroom burst open once more, and twelve federal agents, flanked by the Police Commissioner, marched into the room.

"Richard Vance," the Commissioner announced loudly, reading from a legal warrant. "You are under arrest for the murder of Arthur and Eleanor Vance, the attempted murder of Genevieve Vance, corporate fraud, and treason."

As the federal agents dragged the weeping, broken man off the stage in handcuffs, the entire ballroom fell silent once more.

Genevieve stood at the golden podium. She looked out at the sea of wealthy, powerful people who had forgotten her. Then she looked at Dante, who stood beside the stage, wiping his hands with a white handkerchief, looking at her with boundless pride.

Genevieve smiled—a true, radiant smile that lit up the room.

"Vance International is back in the hands of its rightful heir," she spoke into the microphone, her voice echoing across Manhattan. "And its first act... will be to build a future for the forgotten people of this city."
