Chapter 6 - A Promise Kept

Two years later.
The summer sun shone bright and warm over the Valenti estate.
The front lawns, once cold and austere, were now filled with green grass, blooming white roses, and the sound of children's laughter. The estate had undergone a transformation: the dark iron gates remained for security, but the interior had become a place of warmth, light, and genuine joy.
In the center of the garden, beneath the great red maple tree, a long wooden dining table was set for a celebration.
Fifty guests filled the stone patio—not mob bosses or syndicate enforcers, but local community leaders, estate staff, port workers, and friends.
At the head of the table sat Adrian Valenti.
He wore a light linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, looking younger and happier than he ever had in his life. Next to him sat Elena, wearing a stunning white lace dress, her dark hair styled in soft waves, a brilliant diamond ring sparkling on her finger.
On the lawn, six-year-old Mia was running with Rex, chasing a red frisbee through the grass, her joyful laughter echoing across the estate.
Leo Vance, his shoulder fully healed, walked over to Adrian’s chair, holding two glasses of vintage champagne.
"Everything is clear at the docks, boss," Leo said with a warm smile. "The new maritime trade coalition was signed this morning. Legitimate shipping, fair wages for the dockworkers. Your father would barely recognize the business."
"Good," Adrian smiled, taking a glass. "My father built an empire on fear, Leo. I'd rather build one on something that lasts."
Leo nodded respectfully and walked back toward the guests.
Elena leaned her head against Adrian’s shoulder, taking his hand under the table, her fingers intertwining with his. "Are you happy, Mr. Valenti?"
"Adrian," he corrected softly, kissing her forehead. "And yes, Mrs. Valenti. I am more than happy. I am complete."
Mia came running up to the terrace, out of breath, holding Rex by his leather collar. The Doberman was wearing a small flower garland around his neck, looking immensely proud of himself.
"Daddy! Look!" Mia cheered, pointing at the dog. "Rex is a prince!"
Adrian laughed—a deep, warm sound that filled the afternoon air—and pulled his daughter up onto his lap.
"He certainly looks like one, sweetheart," Adrian said, kissing her cheek.
Mia looked at her parents, then pulled Mr. Whiskers—whose emerald eye caught the summer sunlight, glittering like a tiny star—out of her pocket.
"Do you remember what I prayed behind the tree, Daddy?" Mia asked softly, resting her head against Adrian's chest.
Adrian wrapped his arms around his wife and daughter, holding them close against his heart as the gentle summer breeze rustled the red maple leaves above them.
"I remember," Adrian whispered, looking into Elena’s shining eyes. "You prayed that nobody would take your mommy away."
May you like
Mia smiled, closing her eyes contentedly. "And you kept your promise."
"I always keep my promises, little one," Adrian said softly, looking out over his home, his family, and his peaceful future. "Always."
