Chapter 5 - The Rescue and the Miracle

The Moretti estate in Lake Forest was an iron fortress hidden behind high stone walls and heavy iron gates. Rain poured over the pine trees as three black armored SUVs tore through the night sky, their headlights cut off, coasting silently up the winding mountain road.

Inside the lead vehicle, Roland sat beside Marlene, holding his radio.

"Alpha team, cut the power grid at the rear fence," Roland ordered coldly into his mic. "Beta team, take out the snipers on the east terrace. No survivors except Victor Moretti. I want him alive."

"Copy, Boss," the tactical radios crackled.

At precisely 3:45 AM, the power across the ten-acre Moretti estate went pitch black.

An instant later, Roland’s armored SUV rammed through the heavy iron front gates with a deafening crunch of tearing metal!

Chaos erupted. Alarms blared on emergency backup generators as gunfire echoed through the rain. Roland jumped out of the vehicle, his tactical team pouring out behind him, laying down a wall of suppression fire that forced Moretti’s guards backward into the grand estate foyer.

Marlene moved behind Roland, using his massive frame as cover as they breached the mansion's main doors.

Roland fought like a demon unleashed from hell. Every shot was lethal, every movement calculated to clear a path toward the basement medical wing. He didn't fight for territory or money tonight; he fought with the terrifying fury of a father whose children were dying with every second tick of the clock.

They breached the lower level, kicking through a heavy security door marked Restricted Access.

Inside was a high-tech, sterile medical lab filled with monitors, dialysis machines, and hospital beds.

In the center of the room stood Victor Moretti—an elderly, withered man hooked up to an IV line, holding a small four-year-old boy in front of him as a shield.

Marlene stopped dead in her tracks. Her breath caught in her throat, a choked, agonizing sob tearing from her chest.

The little boy had dark, messy curls, warm hazel eyes, and a small, half-heart birthmark near his collarbone—the exact twin to the pendant clutched in Marlene’s pocket. He was pale, wearing a small white hospital gown, looking terrified at the men with guns.

"Stay back, Castellano!" Victor Moretti screamed, his hands shaking as he held a syringe filled with clear fluid against the boy's neck! "Step back or I’ll inject him with potassium! He dies, and your twins die with him!"

"Noah..." Marlene whispered, tears streaming down her face. She stepped out from behind Roland, dropping her weapon onto the floor with a loud clatter.

"Marlene, no!" Roland warned softly.

"Noah, baby..." Marlene said, her voice dropping into a soft, soothing, melodic lullaby tone that she had sung to her stomach every night before he was born.

"Hush now, little bird, don't you cry... mama’s right here under the sky..."

The little boy froze. His hazel eyes widened, looking past Moretti’s shaking arm directly at Marlene. A faint, instinctual recognition flared in his innocent face.

"M-Mama?" the boy whimpered softly.

In that single second of distraction, Victor Moretti’s grip loosened.

Roland didn't hesitate. He raised his sidearm and fired a single, impossible shot.

BANG!

The bullet struck Moretti straight through the forehead. The old man collapsed backward onto the tile floor, dead before he hit the ground.

Marlene lunged forward, catching Noah in her arms before he could touch the ground!

"Noah! My baby! My sweet boy!" Marlene sobbed hysterically, pulling the little boy tight against her chest, kissing his hair, his cheeks, his hands, holding him as if she would never let the universe tear them apart again.

Noah wrapped his small arms tightly around her neck, burying his face into her shoulder, weeping softly. "Mama... you came for me..."

Roland stood over them, his gun lowered, his broad chest heaving as tears cut lines through the soot and blood on his face.

He looked at his watch. 5:12 AM.

"Marlene," Roland said, his voice trembling with urgency. "We have to go. Mateo and Sofia are running out of time."

Marlene looked up, standing with her son held tightly in her arms. "Let's save your babies, Roland."
