Chapter 3 - The Ghost in the WarehouseThree hours later, inside a heavily fortified logistics warehouse off Terminal Road in Providence Harbor, Grayson Caine sat calmly across a steel interrogation table from Emmett Vaughn.

The dynamics of the room had shifted entirely.
Vaughn had cut Grayson’s bonds an hour earlier after receiving confirmation that the estate’s perimeter was secure—or so he thought. Now, Vaughn poured himself a glass of whiskey while two armed enforcers stood guard near the reinforced steel exit.
"You played a dangerous game, Grayson," Vaughn said, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. "You thought you could smoke out the mole by playing martyr. But you underestimated Uncle Silvio. He doesn't want to run the docks, Grayson. He wants to sell them off piece by piece to the Boston families and retire in the Caymans. And you were standing in the way of the ledger."
Grayson didn't flinch. His grey eyes remained fixed on Vaughn with an intensity that made the lieutenant’s hand tremble slightly as he raised his glass.
"Silvio always lacked patience," Grayson said quietly. "He built his wealth on fear, but he forgot the fundamental rule of this city: you can rent a man's muscle, but you can never buy a captain's loyalty once he realizes his boss is a coward."
"Call it whatever you want," Vaughn sneered, stepping closer to the table. "By midnight, the federal indictments we leaked will hit the district attorney's desk, and you'll be sitting in a federal penitentiary for the next thirty years. Your empire is ours."
Before Vaughn could finish his sentence, the heavy overhead lights in the warehouse flickered twice and died completely.
Emergency backup generators hummed to life, casting a sickly, amber-tinted glow across the cavernous room. But the ambient noise of the harbor outside had changed. The steady drone of container trucks had been replaced by an ominous, absolute stillness.
"What is that?" one of the guards muttered, gripping his rifle tighter.
Vaughn drew his pistol. "Secure the doors! Check the breaker room!"
Before the guards could reach the exit, the massive steel roll-up door at the front of the warehouse buckled inward with a thunderous metallic crash. A heavy industrial forklift, driven by a shadowy figure whose face was obscured by a dark canvas hood, smashed through the barrier, its steel forks tearing through the reinforced wall as if it were cardboard.
As the dust cleared, a solitary figure stepped out from the cab of the forklift.
It wasn't an army of rival gangsters. It wasn't the federal police.
It was a young woman wearing a torn, mud-splattered tweed coat, her dark hair wet from the sea mist, holding a white plastic writing board high in the air with both hands.
Vaughn blinked in sheer disbelief. "What the hell is this? Shoot her! Shoot the damn cleaner!"
The two guards raised their weapons, but before they could squeeze the trigger, a series of sharp, deafening cracks echoed from the catwalks above.
Bang. Bang.
Rook and four of Grayson’s most lethal loyalists—men Vaughn thought had been neutralized or bought off weeks ago—opened fire with pinpoint accuracy, shattering the guards' weapons and pinning them to the concrete floor.
Vaughn spun around, aiming his pistol directly at Grayson’s head. "Stay back, or I'll blow his brains all over this desk!"
Grayson didn't blink. He simply leaned back in his chair, a faint, razor-sharp smile touching his lips. "You should have checked who was cleaning the west wing, Emmett. Mute girls hear everything. And they don't forget where the keys are kept."
Delia stepped forward into the amber light. Her hands were bruised, her fingers raw from forcing the iron bulkhead, but her eyes burned with an unyielding fire. She flipped her writing board over. Written across it in thick, black marker were three words:
SILVIO'S LEDGER IS GONE.

Vaughn’s face turned the color of ash. "You... you were in the study."
Delia didn't answer with words. She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small, encrypted thumb drive—the master backup containing every transaction, offshore routing number, and wire transfer connecting Emmett Vaughn and Silvio Caine to the Boston syndicate. She had lifted it straight from the walnut desk while Petrov was unconscious in the corridor.
