Chapter 5 - The Fall of VasquezThe raid on the Vasquez compound did not take weeks of planning. It took three hours.

With Valentina’s decrypted files in hand, we had the exact GPS coordinates of Hector Vasquez’s primary distribution hub—a heavily fortified estate nestled near the docks of Livorno.
At 11:00 PM that same evening, three black armored vans pulled up to the perimeter gates of the Livorno hub. We didn't wait for permission. Marcus detonated a breaching charge on the heavy steel gates, blowing them inward in a shower of sparks and twisted metal.
My men poured into the courtyard.
I walked behind them, dressed in a black tactical coat, a custom heavy automatic pistol in my grip. The gunfights that erupted in the courtyard were quick, violent, and precise. The Vasquez mercenaries, caught completely off guard and deprived of their insider information from Valentina, panicked.
"Dante Moretti is here!" someone screamed from the second-floor balcony.
I raised my weapon and fired two precise shots, taking the gunman off the balcony before he could raise his rifle.
We moved through the compound like a scythe through wheat. Within twenty minutes, the lower floors were secured.
I kicked open the heavy double doors of Vasquez’s private office on the top floor.
Hector Vasquez was sitting behind a massive glass desk, frantically trying to pack stacks of bearer bonds into a leather duffel bag. A heavy revolver lay on the desk beside him.
"Mercer... I mean, Moretti," Vasquez stammered, his sweaty face pale under the bright office lights. He reached slowly toward the gun on his desk.
I fired a single shot. The bullet smashed directly through the glass desktop, sending sharp shards spraying into Vasquez’s hand. He shrieked, pulling his bleeding hand back, falling backward out of his leather chair.
I walked over the shattered glass, stopping beside his fallen form, and placed my boot firmly against his chest, pinning him to the floor.
"Please!" Vasquez begged, coughing up blood. "It was Valentina! She came to me! She said she wanted to sell the routes! I just bought what was offered!"
"You put a cleaner in my house," I said, my voice ice cold. "You paid Signor Rossini to cut Chiara’s brakes."
"I... I didn't know she was going to die!" Vasquez lied desperately. "It was just business!"
"Chiara was my life," I whispered. "And you turned my life into a graveyard."
I raised the gun.
"Wait! I have millions! Offshore! In Panama!" Vasquez screamed, holding his hands up. "I can give you everything!"
"I don't want your money, Vasquez," I said. "Chiara already gave me everything I need."
I pulled the trigger.
The gunshot echoed through the quiet office, ending eight years of dark vengeance in a single second.
I lowered the weapon and stepped away from the desk. Marcus stepped into the room, holding a satellite phone.
"The docks are secure, Boss," Marcus reported. "Vasquez’s entire network in Northern Italy has been dismantled. The other families have already moved in to claim the territory under our supervision."
I looked out the high office window toward the dark expanse of the ocean. The rain had finally stopped, and the clouds were parting, revealing a vast sky filled with brilliant silver stars.

For the first time in eight years, the heavy weight pressing down on my chest lifted. The air felt clean again.
"Burn this place to the ground, Marcus," I said softly. "We're going home."
