Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the Ramos SyndicateBy sunrise, the Boston underworld was in a state of total panic.

Rumors swept through the docks, the warehouses, and the city council chambers like wildfire: Dominic Ramos, the undisputed king of the eastern seaboard, was liquidating everything.
At 8:00 AM, federal agents and state police—not acting on anonymous tips, but on a massive, fully documented flash drive delivered directly to the District Attorney’s office—raided the homes and offices of Sal Costa and half a dozen corrupted municipal judges.
The files contained years of financial extortion, shipping manifests for illegal contraband, and signed confessions detailing the framing of the Martin family.
At the Ramos estate, trucks rolled up to the front gates. Not carrying contraband, but empty containers.
Dominic stood in the grand courtyard with Avery standing beside him. She wore a simple dark trench coat, the high collar finally framing her face without fear.
Thomas Martin arrived in a frantic sweat, stumbling out of his black sedan, his eyes wide with terror.
“Dominic! What is this? What’s happening?” Thomas yelled, waving his hands at the federal vans parked down the drive. “The police are seizing our accounts! The shipping terminals are being audited! You promised peace when you married my sister!”
Dominic turned slowly, his dark eyes fixing Thomas with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust.
“Your sister is no longer a hostage, Thomas,” Dominic said coldly.
Before Thomas could respond, Dominic’s fist connected with his jaw, sending the disgraced heir crashing backward into the gravel.
“And your family’s debt is paid in full,” Dominic added, stepping over him. “If you ever come within fifty miles of this property again, I won't use the law. I’ll handle you myself.”
Thomas scrambled into his car, tires screeching as he sped down the winding driveway, leaving the Ramos estate behind forever.
Avery watched him go, a profound, unimaginable weight lifting from her shoulders for the first time in four years.
“What do we do now?” Avery asked, turning to Dominic.

Dominic looked out at the Atlantic Ocean, where the morning sun was burning away the last remnants of the November fog.
“We burn the empire down, Avery,” Dominic said, a genuine, unburdened smile touching his lips. “Every dock. Every warehouse. Every penny my father stole. We give it all back to the city, and we start over somewhere the salt water doesn't smell like blood.”
